The captain has already been fired and may face a year in prison. He would not have been "caught" except for the fact that the coast guard was doing a routine inspection and noticed the captain had a strong smell of alcohol. They administered a Breathalyzer" test right then and there, and he was escorted of the ship.

Wow! Pretty scary stuff. I wonder if passengers on the Mercury had any idea what was going on.

Scary for the passengers and crew, and tragic for the captain himself. Obviously he has an alcohol problem, and now he has lost his career and faces criminal penalties. What a shame. Thank God his lack of control didn't get anybody hurt.

I saw this on the Today show this morning. Celebrity / RCI really seems to have its hands full lately. I wish I could say that I have no understanding as to how someone can rise to become the master of a ship and do such a thing but I guess I find less and less surprising as time goes by.
