Should I take it to the next level?

Recommended Posts

I currently have a balcony guarantee booked for my Explorer 9 day cruise. I'm thinking of upgrading to a suite guarantee. The difference would be a total of $700 for the both of us. I would love to do it if its worth the money. Or should I use those $700 towards drinks and shopping? What do you guys think?

Would it be worth the extra $66 or so per day to have the suite? Do you spend much time there? If that's your "home" it might be. If you hang around the pool and casino all day and night, you might not get the value. IMHO. Nancy

we booked a balcony guarantee for the same itinerary in July. It may make yiou feel better to know that many others on our roll call did also. We all got D2 or better balconies, I think. Besides, maybe the upgrade fairy will visit you and move you into that suite anyway! It is September!

So not worth it, keep your balcony guarantee.Use the $$ for fun stuff like drinks on board, maybe a massage, shore excursions.Your not in your cabin that much for that much $$ to make a difference. Have a great time what ever you decide:) .

Gotta love a balcony!!!

Check your sailing date and the new prices..we upgraded yesterday at the new JS rate..$260 extra for 2 for 9 days...10/20/06 Explorer (went from a D2)

For us, It's worth it...4 days at sea....I didn't do it either when it was $600 but $260 for us is a good price...and when we have a great cabin, we spend time there...

If you went through a TA...no trouble doing the upgrade,,,

Do you think its better if I give my final deposit in the last minute or early on?

Any help for my second question? Do people tend to get better rooms if they wait to give in their final payment in the last minute or early on?

Keep the balcony guarantee but ask the pier coordinator once you're there if there are any free upgrades available.

I wouldn't upgrade at this point - keep the extra money for onboard expenses.

for your second question- i bet they assign you a room quicker the sooner you make final payment- we got our cabin # within a few days of final payment and it was same cat. we gty'd for - a D3- which was fine-

i can't say if making final early is better or late is better...............not sure it will make a big difference? unless the cat. you gty'd is selling out............then you might get the next higher cabin cat.? and so on...... good luck and let us know how it works out!

If you make your final payment early, then the cruise line is making money on that amount not you. Keep it in your bank account until the last moment where YOU are earning interest on your $

I asked my TA the same thing about getting a better JS if I paid it earlier and he said that the cabins aren't assigned (usually) until after the final payment date.

Like Treven said, keep it in the bank!!

This is only the second time I've done a guarantee since I like to know my cabin beforehand but did one on a last minute cruise to Bermuda last year and got a D1.. I was happy with it.
