If you visit the "Hotels Pre & Post-Cruise" you'll find a lot of recommendations for hotels in FLL.

As far as finding a cruise, I would visit an online travel site and do a search for your requested dates and departure port to see what's available and go from there...

Remember when you are searching for a cruise that Miami is right next door to Ft. Lauderdale and there are lots of cruises that leave from Miami as well.

We went on a cruise last year out of Miami, but stayed in Ft Lauderdale. We stayed at the Tropi Rock Resort, it's nothing fancy, but you can get a room for about 70.00. The owners are awesome!! The website is www.tropirock.com. We found it on Trip Advisor, with nothing but great comments. We were glad we chose it. It's not right on the beach, but within walking distance.

We have stayed at the Wyndham, which is just west of the airport, but far from any beach.

There is also a Sheraton near the airport.

There is a Best Western next to the port which has free airport and port shuttles.

Many cruise lines offer packages with Bahia Mar or Pier 66 as waterfront locations for pre- and post-cruise stays.

After you find a cruise, you might want to check with that cruise line's vacation package department as to which hotels they have arranged special pre- and post- cruise deals with.

During busy season you would hope that the cruise lines have been able to arrange better volume pricing than you can with various properties.

Cruise lines are particularly good at arranging inexpensive land packages in San Juan, because there is inadequate airline capacity into San Juan on cruise arrival/departure days. This is becoming increasingly true in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, too, especially in the winter "high" Caribbean season, so the cruise line might want to encourage a midweek arrival or departure to alleviate the airline crunch on weekends.

Bequia, thanks for the info on Best Western. Last year it looked sort of convenient from the port.

The Riverside is good--fronts on Las Olas and backs on river, but executive tower rooms are newer and better. Sort of funky and laid back. Visited it last year.
