tootsie 2 Posted June 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2006 We are cruising Alaska in June of 2007.We need to book a flight to Anchorage to get our cruise ship. Then we sail to Vancouver and need to book a flight from there home. Would we need to book it as 2 one way flights or can we get round trip tickets. When I check Travelocity, Orbitz or some other sites they give you a choice of one way, roundtrip and some have multi city. I'M CONFUSED !!!!!!!!! ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!!!!!
JXR Posted June 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2006 You have the option of either buying 2 one-way tickets, or try the Multi-City Option. Then, you will need to enter the specifics of your dates departure etc.... Ex: Departure City to Anchorage and Vancouver to Arrival City. Try both to see what would be the cheapest. Good Luck Joanne
greatam Posted June 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2006 Multi city-into ANC, out of Vancouver is the easiest. Sometimes the cheapest. However, Vancouver flights are premium priced during the summer peak months, due to cruises. Cruisers out of Vancouver are a "captive audience" and the airlines know they don't have to offer many discounts. One option you may want to look at: RT to Seattle and a one way Alaska Airlines ticket to ANC from Seattle. Take the train, shuttle, etc. from Vancouver after your cruise. If you book the Alaska Airlines ticket early enough (no later than November-after that the cheap seats are gone), even with transport to Vancouver you can often save at least $100.00pp. Lots of competition into Seattle, so pretty reasonable prices. Whatever you do, book early-no later than November. We go to Alaska every year for business and fishing. I also have to send employees to Alaska every year. I have NEVER found an inexpensive ticket after November. This year-3 tickets from Kansas City to ANC-$369.20pp booked in October. Needed one more in January-same flight-$574.30. Alaska only becomes more expensive the longer you wait.
Rare silentbob007 Posted June 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2006 Multi-city would be the option you are probably looking for. You might check the prices, then check the prices the cruise line is quoting you ... for this type of trip, they might be comparable.
humanoid94 Posted June 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2006 Use multicity to construct an open-jaw ticket. An open jaw is when you fly A-B, then C-A. Generally the distance between B and C needs to be less than the distance between A-B or C-A. The advantage of doing an open jaw over two one ways is that cheaper fares can generally be used on a "half of roundtrip basis" to construct an open jaw, while one way fares tend to be fairly high.
