Monte Carlo - Eze - Nice and St. Paul

Recommended Posts

We are docking in Monte Carlo and would like to be able to see Eze, Nice and St. Paul.

Is it possible to take public transportation and see all 3 of these cities? Can someone recommend the best way to do this? Thanks in adavance for any advice.

Monte Carlo and Nice yes because they are on the rail line. Eze and St Paul are both walled cities located on top of mountains. They might have bus lines that run to them but you would lose a lot of time trying to get bus connections. We were there on 11 Jun 06 and docked in Cannes and we had a private driver pick us up at the dock and took us to all the places.

Hi JJames, That's what we're doing in early August. Did you get to see and explore much or were you just whisked from one place to another too quickly? Is there any town you would have given up or shortened to spend more time at another? Thanks

We skipped Nice and just went to Monaco, Eze and St. Paul de Vence. We had a couple hours in each place and beautiful drives in between with a couple stops at view points and overlooks. I seriously don't know how we could have fit much more in and not ended up feeling super rushed.

I guess it depends on whether you want more time at a few locations or just a few minutes at a lot of different locations.

This has been covered in other posts, but will do it again. The train line that you catch at Villafranche (within walking distance of the tender pier) spans the entire riviera from the Italian border to Cannes (and beyond). Nice and Monte Carlo both have stations although you might want to use public transit or a taxi in Monte Carlo to get from the station to some attractions such as the palace. The stop for Eze is called Eze sur Mer and its relatively close to Monte Carlo. When you get off at Eze sur Mer you need to take a bus up to Eze (there is a small bus stop right outside the station) or call a taxi for the ride which is a couple of miles. St Paul de Vence is well inland and nowhere near a train station. However, you can get off at Cagnes sur Mer (just West of the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport) where you can catch the public bus that will take you to St Paul de Vence (about 15 -20 min drive from the station). We have often gone to Eze and St Paul de Vence during the port stop, but we prefer to rent our own car to save time and give us more flexibility. However, driving is not for everyone, the traffic around Nice can be nasty, and its a little tricky finding the road to St Paul de Vence although its somewhat easier if you access the road directly from the Autostrade (as opposed to the smaller local road).

Hank,

We looked up the bus schedule for the 83 bus from Eze sur Mer to Eze village for our October cruise and they indicate it stops running on September 30. Do you have any suggestions for alternate ways to reach Eze Village from the train stop?

thanks

Jerry
