Drunk on board

Anyone on the "Land of the Midnight Sun" who was woken by a "Code Alpha" from the Casino, and who didn't hear what was behind it, will be interested to know that the Priest collapsed after a very heavy drinking session. A number of first aiders attended, and I understand one of the doctors.

He did the renewal of vows ceremony the following day. Presumably with a headache.

A "Code Alpha" from the Casino

It used to be so easy to when the calls were Phoenix (fire), Niagara (flood) and "Twilight" (health problems). Was it Twilight or Starlight? I'm not sure now.

So "Code Alpha" means a drunken priest; what are the other codes and what do they mean?

Code Alpha is medical emergency. Not just drunken priests.

Assessment Party is a call when there are problems with anything technical. Panic over when they are stood down.

I'm not sure of the others.

Code Bravo is/was used for fire.

But we noticed on QM2 this year that they were now using bells for everything. A little inconvenient for passengers who now have to count the number of rings each time in case this one turns out to be the General Alarm.

Regards, Colin.

And a little worrying - has the crew counted the correct number of rings? Or are you likely to get a man with a mop when you want a doctor?

Apropos of the various Cunard alarm codes and for the benefit of all future passengers; PLEASE DO NOT BE ALARMED if you hear three short blasts of a hunting horn in the early evening. This is purely the signal for the 'Friends of Jonquil' to assemble in the Commodore Club for the usual pre-prandial tinctures. As regards Kindlychap's allegation of a somewhat inebriated padre; in fairness it must be said that inebriated padres are usually the salt of the earth and, in my experience, they always render sterling service when counselling passengers who may inadvertently have strayed into the Commodore Club when Friends of Jonquil have been in session. Incidentally, there was even an uncivilised fracas at Royal Ascot this year but this was nothing to do with Jonquil and I'm not sure if anyone was counselled by the padre!

Ah, thanks for solving the mystery! Did you anything more about the Code Alpha which followed shortly afterwards? I'm told it was for the engine room.

My recollection is "starlight".

Funny. On Holland America, it is "Bright Star." Wonder what the significance of the "stars" is?

LOL ... why does this not surprise me. :)

Guess too many years in Catholic school as a child. I'm a "fallen" Catholic now. :)
