Cash out

I know that on Royal Caribbean I can just walk into the casino and get a pile of cash, which then goes on my shipboard account, and I pay off at the end of my cruise, for NO FEE.

I know that Princess charges a 3% fee for this.

IF IF IF I "send myself" onboard credits BEFORE my cruise, giving me a cash balance, can I withdraw THAT in cash without a fee?????

Someone has a real positive view of how they will do in the casino! LOL! Glad you're that lucky. I can't wait for a casino run now. (Not that I'm a big gambler, but I can teach you craps).

I'm also glad that you're that luck. Last August, on the Sun Princess - Inside Passage - the first two nights, the casino was packed. After that no one bother to show up - I mean the place was empty. Very poor payouts. I don't know if this is the case with all Princess ships, but casino play on the Sun was terrible.

Just back from the Crown...you can withdrawl your cash you win without a charge! O so right about the empty casino, it's one of my highlights I enjoy, there was no screaming, no noise, no ringing slots & no excitement on the tables, although I had fun it wasn't a very exciting casino & it closed early every night because there wasn't anyone in there. The last night (lot's going on) I didn't get there until around 1:15...THEY CLOSED AT 2:15, can you believe that, I wanted to get my casino fill in all night but NOOOOOOOO, they closed, I was so dissapointed!!

b/c no payouts. I play craps b/c it is supposedly the best odds in the house. I heve never seen so many people lose at craps and the dealers emptied the tables every night I played on both the Island and Coral. I don't expect to make a killing, but it would be fun to have a few hundred dollars last more than 30-45 minutes. I'm done with Princess casinos.

I don't think the OP was asking about recieving winnings. I think she was asking about using the casino to get cash for spending money onshore. I have never done this so I don't have an answer for her. Maybe someone else can?

Yes, Tom, you are correct. I KNOW that I can get any WINNINGS out in cash. On RC, you can use the casino like a *bank* and just use it to get cash, without paying a fee. On Princess, I can get cash, but I have to pay a 3% fee on that cash. (i.e., get $500 and pay $15 for the privilege of having my own money!).

I am asking if I can get around Princess' fee rules by stocking my onboard account NOW, before I leave, with "gifts" of credits. Can I then go somewhere, like the Purser's desk, and withdraw THAT money in cash without paying a fee?????????

Th answer to that question is YES! My children gave me a bunch of casino credits as a gift and I just presented the voucher at the cage and got cash without a fee.

I remember reading a post here that the reason Princess charges 3% for a cash withdrawel to your room charge, is that this is essentially a cash advance on your credit card. I understand that at one time there was no service charge and people would take advantage of this to get a cash advance without a fee. Princess eventually caught on and started charging a fee.

I am not sure what happens if you set up your On Board Credit account by making a cash deposit. I would think that in this case there would be no fee, but the casino may not have the ability to make exceptions, since very few people pay cash into their OBC account.

I assume the reason you want to do this is because you don't want to carry a lot of cash before getting on the ship, so if Donna is correct, and this service is still available, you can send a gift to yourself. But if you pay for this gift with a credit card, I suspect you will still be stuck with the 3% charge. And if that is the case, I would not bother with the gift idea, and just pay at the casino.

Tom, you are certainly correct about my reasons and motivation.

You can pay for the "gifts" with a credit card and there still is no fee. If you want...just send the gift to your DH or have him send it to you!

FYI, Carnival does have a slot club but NOT Princess even though they are the same company.

Ethel 5 I was told my Carnival slot card is good on Princess and all the Carnival lines. Is this not true? I was hoping to earn points on Princess.

We were also going to send a check to use for cash in the Casino and for excursions.

I stand corrected-my last three cruises were on the Regal and Sea Princess and those ships don't participate in the program! i'll look forward to signing up on my next cruise.
