Will the ship be decorated for Christmas by Dec. 23?

Oh I am so hoping that the ship will be decorated earlier. I'm on a Dec 2 cruise and would love to have all the Christmas decorations laid out although I won't cry over it if they don't. Does anyone know the story of the timing of the decorations on the ship?

We’ll be returning from a Caribbean sailing on QM2 December 23. Will the ship be decorated for Christmas by then, or will it just be decorated for the next sailing?

Decorations will 'slowly' start being put up starting about a week before, so I would guess starting around the 18-19th. So should be almost complete by the time you sadly have to say "farewell".

All of the Christmas decorations were installed and beautiful when we boarded on 12/8/05! We were at table 85 in the Britannia in front of the mural and a Christmas tree. The stairway and upper rails were festooned with garland. It's the most beautiful time to be on the ship. In addition to the tall tree in the lobby, there are numerous small decorated trees throughout the ship. However, the July 4 decorations must have also been stunning!

From everyone’s responses, it sounds like the decorations will be up while we’re on board. In that case, maybe -- having lived with the ship’s decorations -- I’ll be able to get away with not putting up and decorating our Christmas tree, which I really don’t want to do immediately afer we return. We can have enough Christmas on board, then come home on the 23rd and relax instead of trying to get ready for the holidays in two days.

We always cruise the first week of December and the ships that we have been on have always been fully decorated. We were on the Mariner of the Seas last year and it was fully decorated and just as large as QM2 so I'm assuming....

Matter of fact, many of our formal photos had the most beautiful backdrops of trees and flowers you have ever seen! I sure hope Cunard is ready by then!!

JudyZoo....put your tree up before you leave and enjoy it when you get home! It really is nice to come home from your vacation with everything done!!!

Have a great cruise in December! I can't wait for ours!

We just returned from T A and Med cruise on QM2. We happened to meet the Captain's wife on a shore excursion and during our chatter I asked about the Christmas decorations since we will return on Dec. 23. She said they really do a lot. Later when we met the Captain at one of the receptions she was standing nearby and I posed the same question. I got the same answer.

I certainly am hoping they will have her decorated for the Dec 2nd cruise.

Anyone out there who sailed on her in the beginning of Dec who can let us know about this? Perhaps it's too early for decorations but I'm hoping otherwise. Cheers, Penny

That's good information! Not only decorated, but heavily decorated. We were on a Carnival ship a few years ago shortly before Christmas; they put up only a few decorations, which was a bit disappointing.

You know, when we went on our first Christmas Cruise, I was sure the ship would be filled with people who do not celebrate Christmas- People who aren't Christians, or whatever, maybe trying to escape the hoopla that takes over everything during the season. I am sure it is a bit difficult at times to be a non-Christian at Christmas time. Boy was I surprised to find they did it up even bigger than on land! I sort of joked about not having to listen to incessant Christmas carols (which I have begun to hate, as they start earlier and earlier each year, and I know this is sacrilege, but I am tired of the same ones over and over!) Well, at least I didn't hear "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. Instead, they played an endles loop of Frank Sinatra and other Christmas songs. I don't care for Frank Sinatra. "Is that you, Santy Claus" is good.... the first five times that week! (I forget the jazz singer who does that. My mind isn't too good right now.)

Anyway, just my 2 1/2 cents

Karie,

Who made it safely to Daytona, despite a 3 1/2 hour layover that turned into 4 1/2 hours in Atlanta, and a few crying jags now and then (If you didn't catch the threads Maria posted on or that I posted earlier, my father died yesterday, and I am here to say goodbye...)<img>

Yes, on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve - Christmas on board doesn't start at the beginning of December and run until mid January unlike ashore:( Another advantage is that the service and food is normally good, so their becoming even better isn't that noticeable:)

kindlychap,

I think this is the US date format ie.should have read 8 December 2005.

Kind Regards,

"...ie.should have read 8 December 2005." I don't think so! I'm a Yank, and I was correct listing the date as 12/8/05 which is the logical order to place it in, since it places the parts of the date in the appropriate order as written - December 8, 2005. Nobody verbally says "the Christmas decorations were up on 8 December 05", even though the Brits and some others mistakenly, for some strange reason, reverse the order when they put it into writing! The Brits should get with the program and change their incorrect writing of dates along with driving on the wrong side of the road!

Note: However, I thankfully don't remember hearing Frank Sinatra singing Christmas Carols!

Can't speak for Queen Mary 2, but QE2 was always elegantly festooned by mid December, with Poinsettias on all the dining room tables. Shame was that the Christmas cruise from New York seemed to attract a rather raucous, crude and loud bunch, with uncontrolled kids literally running amok. One small Christmas tree was once launched down one of the multi-deck stairwells. Friends of mine who are officers and crew dread the holiday cruises. Maybe things are different on Queen Mary 2...

not that it's a terribly important thing to be getting heated about but we put a "th" after it, so actually would always say eighth of December, I have never said December eight, so that is why we do it differently, but who is to say which is right or wrong? apart from the fact of course that we have been doing a lot longer.

Anyway I store my files on computer in US format so it puts them in month order, that makes sense.

Greetings to the US from Manchester UK

Hi 2moose

Was that the 2004/2005 QE2 christmas cruise? We were also were on that cruise and had a fabulous time. The places we visited, the entertainment on board, the decorations and the other passengers all contributed to creating a fabulous and memorable cruising experience.

Can not wait for this christmas.

Shellie;)
