I will be in St. Thomas from 9am - 8pm - Do you think we will have time to go to Tortola?

I have been to Trunk Bay before, and even though I want to go again, I wanted to ask you if you recommend another beach or is Trunk Bay the prettiest?

Thanks so much!

Hello,

The STT-Tortola ferries mostly have their first departures between 8am and 8:55am... then the next ones around 11am-noon. You'd miss the earliest ones that would give you a full day but it still seems doable for a few hours; check the schedule and decide. You can also do a day charter.

There are lots of pretty beaches on St. John... Trunk Bay, Caneel Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Honeymoon Bay, Hawksnest, Maho and on and on. ;) Trunk Bay is certainly a very postcard perfect beach. Check the beach guide at http://www.*****/stjohn/beaches_stj/ to see other options.

There are fewer scheduled ferries from Charlotte Amalie than from Red Hook, and you must "backtrack" to go downtown and then take that ferry. Traffic can be slow through downtown.

It's generally quicker to take a taxi to Red Hook and catch the next ferry there. Go to the link posted above to see the schedules.

Found the taxi rates/entry rates:

This is how I see it:

DAY TRIP FOR TWO PEOPLE - ST. THOMAS - ST. JOHN ON OUR OWN TRUNK BAY EXCURSION

RED HOOK - CRUZ BAY

(leaves hourly from 8:AM - 12:MIDNIGHT)

$10 ONE WAY - TWO PEOPLE

$10 TOTAL

CRUZ BAY - RED HOOK

(leaves hourly from 6:AM - 11PM)

$10 ONE WAY - TWO PEOPLE

$10 TOTAL

TAXI - CRUZ BAY - TRUNK BAY

$12 ONE WAY - TWO PEOPLE

$24 TOTAL

TRUNK BAY ENTRANCE FEES

$8 - TWO PEOPLE

TOTAL FOR TRIP = $52

So - $52 - plus add snorkel equipment if you don't have your own, souveniers, food/Beer

I am going to take about $100 -

Plus the cost of getting from Red Hook back to the ship...and after snorkeling from Trunk bay back to the ferry..

I think this is what we've planned to do now.

How does everyone get these beautiful shots from up above of Trunk Bay? Or is another beach? Would love to have this for my wallpaper on my computer and just a pic. to frame after we return.

So then you'll also have to add admission to Trunk Bay, as well as the chair/umbrella rentals...

I also wonder how expensive the food is there...

Sorry... we're researching this as well... for 4-9 people!

Still sounds better than doing a cruise excursion!

:p

bigsky - you can find some neat USVI wallpapers for your computer at http://www.*****/general_usvi/wallpaper/.

KChesneylover & Tropicalgal,

The Havensight to Red Hook taxi is $10 pp, ow and the Trunk Bay admission is $4 pp for adults. So $46 per person, plus chair & snorkel rentals (no umbrella rentals) & plus food/drink.
