Jennycruise Posted July 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Does anyone know of a car rental angency that will let you rent a car in the Atlanta area and drop it off near Port Canavral...then, secure one for the drive back to Atlanta? I've been told that auto rental companies don't like to do that but surely someone does it.

GMoney Posted July 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Hi Jenny - IME, most major rental companies will allow you to do 1-way rentals, it's just the question of whether they tack on a fee or not. Shop around at the various websites, or try something like kayak.com or sidestep.com. The good thing is that you are terminating in FLA, which is rental car heaven, so hopefully you can avoid the fee on the way down at least. Hopefully, as you want to take a car back to Georgia, 1 week later, you would not have to pay a one way fee at all
luv2cruz64 Posted July 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2006 You can try any of the large agencies even doing a search with one of the internet travel sights. We thought about doing the same thing from the Baltimore area and discovered that the price difference was much greater for a one-way rental. You might be surprised to find out that it might actually be @the same price to rent the car for the entire week, pay to park in Florida and return it when you get home. Then you won't have to worry @transfers to and from the rental agency(which will probably be at the airport only for one ways).
cruiseman_tx Posted July 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Your best bet is to check online or on the phone with agencys like Budget, Thrifty, Dollar, Avis etc... Should be easy enough to find out what the availability and charges might be. They all do one-ways from Orlando to Port Canaveral, but I couldn't say what price you'd pay from Atlanta. PSCruiser Posted July 24, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Several companies do that from Orlando - I assume Atlanta also. Try Budget online and use code CC5 for the port location. I've used them in the past and they were inexpensive and easy.
zqvol Posted July 24, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2006 My guess is that a round trip rental plus the parking fees will be cheaper than two one way rentals. You should probably run the numbers. Almost all of the big companies allow one way rentals and you can price them on their web sites.
sal7202 Posted July 24, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 24, 2006 I think most car rental agencies will allow you to do it, but they charge you a drop off fee.
jwhise01 Posted July 24, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Avis was very affordable for one way rentals from Charlotte, NC to Port Canaveral... They have a free shuttle to the ship as well.
bmvcanton Posted July 25, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2006 We are renting a car from the Avis in Marietta for our cruise in Jan 07, we are doing two one ways, no parking fee that way, and it is costing us about $250. We are taking it for two days on the way, we want to pick it up the day b4 to pack so we can leave b4 Atlanta traffic starts up the next day and possibly not turn it in in Miami until following day after hotel stay. We pick up same car from Avis after cruise and return following day in Atlanta. We did only get a compact because there's only two of us and gas $$$. Hope this helps.
