Fun Ship Dollars

I am very confused about Fun Ship Dollars. I have read different posts about this subject and want to see if anyone can clear some questions up please.

First, my situation.....I am traveling with my GF and my Parents/Brothers want to buy me Fun Ship Dollars. I am booked thru a TA and this is a group cruise and I Do Not have a booking #.

1) Can my Parents/Brothers buy Fun Ship Dollars online and have them sent to me? If so can I take them to the pursers desk upon arrival & have them put on my S&S account?

2) If in fact my Parents/Brothers can buy them online. Carnival states that you must send them in 2 weeks prior to your cruise? Is this true? I have read & gotten conflicting reports from these boards & Carnival.

Thanks for your help........

I have done both, mailed them in and taken them in person to the purser. There is a 3rd option you are probably not aware of, and that is to give them to your travel agent. This makes the TA mail them registered to CCL on your behalf so if they won't give you a booking number, let them mail them.

Just photo copy the front and then get a receipt from the TA for documents dropped off.

I wonder why you dont have a booking number--- even a group will have a number.

Steveaaaa. I wouldnt attempt to take them to the pursers desk. They are not supposed to take them.

What your parents can do is call carnival- tell Carnival which ship you are on and the date. And state that you want cabin credits placed on your account. (they can buy you drink coupons or photo coupons too.)

When you get cabin credits placed onto your account you wont get the funship $$ in the mail- so you dont have to mail them back to carnival and have them placed. (they can only buy in increments.. 25, 50 75 or hundred) They also stated that you send them back--not the travel agents. (seems like a lot of paperwork to me- i wouldnt take a chance that the purser wouldnt take them. (lost money) I have been placing shipboard credit for my Feb cruise for about 2-3 months now.

But for friends that have cruised I ordered them drink coupons or the photo coupons.

PS: you can carnival 3 times with the same question and get 3 different answers.

Serene56,

The pursers will take them, but they do a security check on them. I have done it a few times at the pursers. They are also not to be used for tips or for use in the casino but every cruise they do use them for tips and I am able to get cash in the casino from my balance.

The reason the OP does not have a booking number is he has group number and his individual info is kept and controlled by the TA. This is the exact reason why he gives the TA the fun ship dollars and they take care of it from there. If you read the back of one you will see it states "Present the Certificate to your travel agent that made the booking"

When your cruise is over you get a check back for unused dollars.

I have a booking number as the group.-but since I have a set cabin I also got a personal booking number.

Because they booked as a group-can people get them gifts and have them send to their cabin?

Yes, what happens is the in cabin gifts are not delivered until the actual sailing date and by that time the gift company has knowledge of your actual cabin, the same way you do when you show up at the pier with a guarantee cabin. The groups are sometimes just a block of rooms waiting to be assigned, the TA might know the actual room # of an individual person depending on how they set the group up with CCL.

I'd rather have them on my person instead of taking the chance they arent there, but ws told by carnivl that Pursers wont do it. But since you guys did it... then its cool. thanks

When we sailed in May on a cc group cruise I was still able to order drink coupons (lots of them!) and purchase fun ship dollars....which I mailed back in myself and they were credited to our s&s account when we boarded. We had an individual booking number in addition to the group number that was given to us by the t/a.
