All Those with GTD Cabins

I am one of those people with a GTD interior cabin for my next cruise. I am happy to say I received my docs today for my July 31st cruise and let me tell you, I still have no clue what my cabin is... And I'm happy about that. My luggage tags say TBA and my cabin number on all of the documents says Guarantee.

At first, I wanted to know what the cabin number could or would be, but now I'm kind of excited to find out what it will be when I board...

All I can say is, don't sweat it. You'll get a cabin on this ship. You just don't know what cabin it will be. That's the great thing about guarantees. I hope you will join me in the can't wait to see club...

I will also share with you since you are paying attention, that this will be my first Carnival Cruise after 6 RCI and I could not be happier with the Carnival experience so far. I don't expect any less than great on this cruise.

I'm very glad to be a part of this world now!!!

I may be joining you in the "find out the cabin at the pier" club! Last cruise my guar cabin was assigned 53 days out. Now, I am coming up on 40 days and no assignment yet.

To make things more interesting, there are *no* inside cabins available to book, according to my favorite online TA, but you can still book a 4A or 4B guar cabin!

There are still a lot of outside cabins showing available. So it stands to reason that lots of inside guars are going to end up with outside cabins.

What I think happens is that the inside guar is a way for Carnival to "lower the price" of more expensive cabins, without having to refund other passengers who paid a higher price.

It is really pretty smart. If they lower the price, every Tom, Dick, and Harry who has already booked is going to call up and demand an OBC, but this way they can sell outside cabins for the price of an inside and no one already booked is any the wiser.

GTY's, love the risk takers "living on the edge" :) saw an IS (inside guaranty)the other day on the Sensation paid $180 upgraded to a category 11 not quite sure what the circumstances were, but just an example. On the Legend I booked a 4A at the last moment and received an upgrade to an 8I:D . With the waiting to the last moment (CCL) has established some semblance of order to the upgrades. I'd hate to sit at large dinner table hearing an individual espouse how little they had paid and how much better their upgrade is lol Carnivals main "pecking order" is recently the more you pay the better the upgrade. Example a "regular rate (GTY)person" would be higher on the pecking order than a Senior, Resident or Military promotion (GTY) person. Does not always hold true as evidenced, but there does seem to be some consistency.

Last year I kept checking and checking for our balcony guarantee room on the Miracle. We couldn't find out till the dock. Got a great room.

This year, didn't even bother check, but the room number was on our docs, and so I checked the site, and sure enough we'd been assigned a great room. Did a 6A Guarantee and ended up in a 6E. No little portholes for us, we've got floor to ceiling windows!

Both ways have their advantages, finding out at the pier, or finding out in advance!

I like guarantees in that I've usually been upgraded (not always) and I like the mystery. I'm sure that if I ever get a horrible cabin my mind might be changed, but that has yet to happen. On my last Glory cruise, I was initially upset with my cabin placement, 4A guarantee and ended up all of the way forward on the main deck. However, we had the best room steward I"ve ever had there ... so things worked out!

We have typically had pretty good luck with the guarantees. Our first cruise, cabin was WAAAAY aft, not so good, especially on the Celebration. But others have been fine. Our upcoming cruise on the Ecstacy, we booked OV guarantee, and got a good location on Main deck. A hint to people who will need 4 people to a room. On the fantasy class ships: Elation, Ecstacy, Sensation, etc. all of the OV rooms which sleep 4 are decent. They are not too far forward or too far aft. I figured we might as well book unassigned as we were pretty much guaranteed a decent cabin. I suppose the only risk would be if you ended up under the casino or something.
