Century's Captain is now Captain Mitropoulos.

 

Thanks for the update. Nothing against Captain Mitropoulos, but we were hoping that Captain Pagonis would still be onboard. I knew he was due for Vacation though. Captain Pagonis is one of the friendliest and visable Captains in Celebrity's fleet. Hopefully, we will meet again on a future X sailing.

 

We sail on Century this Saturday. I will report back after our Cruise.

We just loved Captain Pagonis when we sailed with him last year. Incredibly friendly. We would see him around and he was always happy to see us. Saw him on shore and he was still more than happy to take his time to talk to us.

Master is Captain Anastassios Lekkas; John Howell is the Cruise Director. Asked John how long he would be on the Galaxy since so many of you were asking. He said he wasn't sure -- maybe 1-2 mos. Melanie is the Captains Club Hostess and Laura is handling future cruises.

With all the shake ups going on becuase of the Shawn Cananaugh situation, who know. It will likely be the current Activity Manager. I know X likes to use yoyos, a guy who flips between positions. Stewart's AM was Ian Turnbull, but he's on vacation and heading to the Infinity. I also understand, Luke Bonny on the Connie is due for promotion to CD soon as well. So who know?

Several posts have evaporated but perhaps this update concerning Galaxy will clear up the Shawn Cavanag "episode."

 

Hello there. Just thought some of you might want to know what life is like for the crew aboard these wonderful ships. For those of you who travelled the Christmas cruise on Galaxy here's some info. The Cruise Director did not have to leave for 'a family emergency'. No he was in fact fired for refusing to take an alcohol test. His partner was the event coordinator, so she to had to leave. The Activities manager resigned also(because he too was a raging alchoholic). This whole scenario started because the Cruise Director fired one of the dancers for missing his duties and there was a backlash amongst some members of the cast. Also on this cruise another dancer was fired for more serious matters. Plus 3 members of the bar staff were fired. Later on we lost 4 Casino staff, all in all since Capt Lekkas and his sidekick Staff Capt Livianos have been onboard at least 30 crew members were fired in the space of 30 days....

There was an unpleasant atmosphere onboard because everyone was scared of their own shadow in fear of losing their job.

I read in somebody's 01/28 Millennium review that Captain Taramas is replacing Captain Karatzas, who is enjoying vacation. I don't know at what date Captain Karatzas will return. I will report on Millennium when I sail her a week from now, on 02/18!

I cannot remember the captains name on-board the Summit during a 14 day Hawaiin cruise last April but he was the youngest of all Celebrity's captains. He was nice looking, very friendly and could generally be seen around ship most of the time. However, he ran an extremely lax ship. The ship was rusty, had a general unkempt appreance and just looked tired and rundown. Things were broken and not fixed. FOr instance on the forward top sunning deck, there was a speaker that had come off it's mount and seemed to be permently propped up on a cardboard box on the deck. The first day, a halogen light was dangling from it's mount in the ceiling of on of the aft elevators. When we left two weeks later it was still dangling. The rooms were dirty and the staff were not as attentive as the other Celebrity ships we have been on.

 

I want to say, my partner and I have cruised on many occasions on Celebrity and have always up until the Sumit had a remarkable experience. Unless there has been a change in Hotel director and Captain, we would never board the Summit again. It was a very poorly run ship.
