On Board Experience / The Bar at the Edge of the Earth

Q: Will there be a Cirque du Soleil show on board?

A: No. Open nightly, The Bar at the Edge of the

Earthâ„¢ is not a traditional Cirque du Soleil show. Cirque

du Soleil has designed a unique entertainment

experience for the observation lounge on select

Millennium-class ships. This experience will have a number of

characters created exclusively for Celebrity – with a

Masquerade Ball and a special Cirque du Soleil performance

one night of the cruise.

Q: Which ships have the Cirque du Soleil experience?

A: For now, Constellation® and Summit® are slated

for the onboard experience.

Q: When will The Bar at the Edge of the Earth be open?

A: The lounge will be open all day with a heightened

experience occurring between 7PM and 9PM. In addition,

guests may enjoy a Masquerade Ball and special

performance the night before the last formal night on every

cruise. After 9PM each night the resident DJ will play

music for guests. During the day, many of the

activities that currently take place in the lounge will remain

there.

Q: Will there be an additional charge for The Bar at

the Edge of the Earth?

A: There will not be a charge for the 7-9PM nightly

experience. We will be offering reservations to the

exclusive, one-time per cruise Masquerade Ball for a

moderate charge.

Q: Will the Cirque du Soleil experience be family

friendly?

A: The experience will feature video projection and

music that may not be suitable for very young children,

but the overall experience is designed for guests of

all ages.

Q: Will the Cirque du Soleil characters be at various

venues throughout the ship or only at the The Bar at

the Edge of the Earth?

A: Some exclusive characters will live only in the

lounge. Other characters, such as Pez Erizo, will engage

passengers throughout the ship.

Q: Can The Bar at the Edge of the Earth be purchased

by a group?

A: As we introduce this new experience, we want to

make it available to as many guests as possible. For now,

the lounge cannot be purchased.

Masquerade Ball

Q: Can everyone attend the Masquerade Ball?

A: Similar to our Specialty Restaurants, this is an

exclusive, reservation-only experience.

Q: Will the mask be free at the experience or should

it be purchased prior to the show? Can guests bring

their own?

A: Guests will be encouraged to wear masks. Many

different types will be available for purchase before the

Ball. Hats will also

be available for guest who do not wish to wear masks.

Q: Since this is not a show, will there be Cirque du

Soleil acrobatic performances on board the ship.

A: There will be performance elements during the one

won’t be Cirque du Soleil’s scheduled, staged

performances, but impromptu acrobatic acts demonstrating the

theawesome1: When do you think Celebrity will start a massive marketing and advertising campaign regarding Cirque du Soleil's inclusion on its' ships? It seems to me it's lagging in promotion. What's your opinion? Just curious.

The Transatlantic may have members aboard working on the lounge, and starting promos. I think 3 months up front would be good & a massive booking affair for the grand premiere with Jack in attendance. They have asked me if I am doing the 12/4 cruise to assist with promos aboard, I tell them they pay for my sail. So we will see.

CDS shop will be happening also aboard, with more than just masks for the Masquarade Party. The ads for shows will bear X in them, as do X ads stating CDS on M Class.

Love the addition of my questions with answers as I have here sent to me from Jack's Dept after I asked him all the questions:

Not to worry, no Connie & Summit will not be taken over. Just that a few members will be out & about with guests at the pool, shooting those floor pucks (I forget what it is called but some folks are great) even shooting baskets. The main collage will be in the Lounge which is their home base with a performer thrown in from an aerial with at least 20 feet free around her, or a juggler again with room free. They may even set up larger acts in the showroom after the get accustomed to movement on a ship (so human balancing won't happen for a while). The characters were seen last night on their TV show on A&E. These are new hires that are not in shows touring at the present time. Amazing people that can fold themselves up into a cardboard box & disappear (and I am amzed at it) to another who unfolks cardboard in 8 sections. Then it become a stairway as he goes down stairs, then become an escalator with him riding and again he goes down, the cardboard carves in & he is GONE! The baby from Mystere will be EZO character to get folks laughing away. You will never know when he is behind you, imitating what you are doing, how you eat dinner, etc. Please if he choses you, it is because he likes you & feels comfortable with you. He is not insulting you. So do not get mad, just enjoy the laugh even throw a pie at him ;-) Their parties are wonderful, as far as Las Vegas at Bellagio's opening, at TI's Mystere premiere where my DH was told to get a large pop with my popcorn & the French butler type shows us to our seats & then rips up our tickets & yells for us to be thrown out. I was MAD! Then he takes my popcorn & throws it all over a row of folks & then took my pop to do the same but he had the lid on & laughed at them. We got a week at the hotel with air home for doing the stunt including me chansing him across the stage yelling at full voice that he was to die. That was my intro to Cirque. Then I was writing all Las Vegas reviews on shows at TI (MYstere), Bellagio (O) & NYNY (Zumanity - that the LVRJ used without my name as I requested). It hurt to write a review on something that wasn't for me. Then Orlando's group who was on vacation when we arrived, but they were at our hotel. Then Beau Rivage in Biloxi Miss which was the last sister property to Las vegas Mirage Resort before Steve sold them to by DI, now called Wynn Las Vegas. CDS will have 2 showrooms there & another at MGM to open this year based on the Asian Oscar winning "Dragon" movie.

I can bring my CDS publicity file with me 9/7 for folks to see if they want. Just let me know. You will learn plenty!

theawesome1: Thank you for your response. Believe the Cirque du Soleil concept will be carried out with "Class" on Celebrity's ships. Really don't think this type of entertainment will infringed on Celebrity's other entertainment venues (ie. caribbean music, etc.) Again, thank you for keeping us informed of the latest Celebrity/Cirque du Soleil news.

They are introducing the Cirque idea slowly starting with Constellation 12/4, then Summit in February, then Millie should be April or May as they are planting ideas that are different on each ship with new hires that are employed at Celebrity locations, with people who do not mind motion with cruising. As far as being gone for 9 months or so, that isn't a problem as many don't live where they perform. They close down shows for 2 months a year on land for vacation, so holiday cruises won't have them but I may be wrong. Since it seems like a vacation sooner than work.

As I hear more from Chantal in Montreal or dear Jack's dept, I will pass it on

Hi Joan,

Nice to meet you. That does sound better than calling you Ma. On these new boards you click on the Avatar and it opens up a person's profile, you download the Vcard (if the person has one on file), which has the email addr on it. But since I am not hiding my email addr on these boards, please email me at wv4891@sbcglobal.net

Hi all

Well, we just saw Allegria in Philly and it was awesome. I agree that human balancing won't be a possibility for quite a while. We had seen Veriquai (not sure of the spelling) last year and it was also wonderful.

In Allegria they had the most adorable little boy who did the pre-show announcements and then was part of the balancing act. My granddaughter (15) wanted to take him home!

We love Cirque and hope that those who have never experienced it will give it a chance. Yes, it is very unusual and some may not like the concept. That's fine. Just give it a chance. The performers are warm and personable. The only problem some have is that it is sung mainly in French and other languages. When we were returning to our car I overheard a young woman and two young men say the only word they understood was Allegria! Well, other than the main girl who sang the song throughout, there is no speaking, Only singing. Everything is basically mime and circus.

I do feel that you should research these shows before you see them. They are unique but so wonderful and I've never seen human beings bend themselves and fly the way they do. It's wonderful to us.

Celebrity was advertised prominently and the funniest thing was that when they called everyone back from intermission they blew a ship's horn. My DH and our kids just laughed and wished were were really on board the ship.

We're sailing Summit in March and plan on experiencing the Cirque in person and often. Even my DH who I really thought would hate it loved it and returned this year with me to see Allegria.

Again, to each his own but I would definitely advise reading about Cirque and knowing what to expect before being disappointed.
