Progresso pier??

Anyone in a wheelchair had any experience with getting into town from the pier at Progresso? Is it really 5 miles long? Please advise. :mad:

Yes, the pier is really that long. They run shuttle buses from where the cruise ships dock into town. I'm sorry but I don't know if they are wheelchair accessible.

IUnless they have changed in the past 2 years, the buses are not accessible. However, there are taxis if if you can transfer to one.

 

We hired one to go to Dzibilchan (sp?) which was marginally wheelchair accessible. The entry building was ramped; however, there was a gravel path to get to the small museum (I pulled my husband's manual chair backwards over the gravel) Then there is another, gravel shorter path to get to the archaeological site. Once, there the site was passable. We exited out a back entrance to get back to the parking lot. It was a bit difficult, but my husband really enjoyed it.

Has anyone ever walked and rolled to town from the Progresso pier? Is it unheard of? is it possible? or is it just a good way to die in Mexico?

Unless you don't mind a really long walk in very hot and humid temps, then it's doable, but it's not my idea of fun. It's a VERY LONG walk.
