What's the best upgrade you've gotten as a solo traveler?

Hi!

I booked my first solo cruise last Friday. I already had a once-in-a-lifetime deal (I think) for an inside cabin (solo-occupancy) for 355$ all taxes included (6 night Bahamas cruise out of New York on NCL Spirit). I got my cabin number this morning and I have been upgraded to an oceanview!!!! I can't believe it, I'm happy!!!! Leaving home next Saturday and the ship leaves Sunday. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is that I am above the casino (but at the end of the casino, not in the middle, I hope this will help for reducing the noise).

That is why I am WAY up front on the Celebration next month. The deal was right - $164 plus tax solo for 5 nights. It doesn't get much righter than that.:D At least I have two portholes. And to think I said I would never sail without a balcony.... never say never....:rolleyes:

have been on many cruises about 13 carnival and 5 royal carrib... not always a single but have only had 3 minor upgraids in this time... none as a single (6 single i have been on )......what really was bad i was on a late sept. cruise in 2001 paid full price for an inside cabin... many people cancelled because of 9-11 ... most of the boat were in very good cabins at way less than half the price.... had a nice time but was not pleased that i didnt get at least an upgrade............im booked as a single in oct. on a carnival.... (got a good price ), but just one time i would like a little break... give me that balcony...

Patty - my cruise is Oct 21 - but when I checked this morning, the ship is now almost sold out - so no more deals. However, I continue to check the Carnival web site - today they are having a sale too - and you will be surprised what great pricing you can find - if you just keep looking. :)

Ive been on 12 cruises single ocp. and never got an upgrade other than the catagory booked. You would think that after paying the singles penalty they would give something but Ive never been lucky . On 5 cruises with family 3 were upgraded. So I also think they try to keep groups happy . Ive been on most of the major cruise lines and they all seem the same. I dont think They really want singles cruisers as multiples spend more. Im going on carnival in two weeks on MIRACLE and tickets list cabin catigory given at booking so again no upgrade. Im also one who books inside so I can go on at least 1 or 2 cruises each year CARL

I normally travel with my wife, but she isn't really keen on the idea of the North Atlantic in January, so on the crossing that I went on in January on QE2 I booked a more modest cabin than I would normally do. And I got that at a fantastically low rate.

 

The very next day I received an upgrade to the Penthouse - balcony and butler. As a solo!

 

You have to bear in mind that QE2 has only 28 cabins with balconies. And of those, eight are obstructed.

 

Mine was a proper full view one!!!

 

I was chuffed, to say the least....

I am crusing solo aboard Carnival Valor May 13, 2007. I currently have a reservation for an 8A. I got a discount for being a honorably discharged veteran. An upgrade would suit me. This will be my first cruise outside of the Navy.:)

I have been solo 3 times . never an upgrade, I think the upgrades are for the couple s
