We leave next saturday for our second cruise and I gotta say I agree with a couple posters...I am looking forward to standing on the balcony and feeling the breeze and smellng the salty air. But what I am looking forward to most is being rocked to sleep each night!! I have had insomnia for 16 + years and I have never slept like I did during the last cruise!!

I love the photos. My girlfriends and I always go to every station and try different poses and combinations. It's also fun to come back on board after a great excursion and look for your "proofs"! The photographers are pretty talented - we've bought quite a few. We also buy the albums and put the prints in right away.

I also like to look in the gift shops every night after dinner. Not much changes day to day but I always see something new each time. I love the $10 watches that Carnival has started carrying - so fun!

Hi All,

My wife and I have a little tradition on each cruise. We love to stand in front of the safe and turn off our cell phones, put them in the safe and know that there will be no work for the next 10 or so days. Is there any other type of vacation when you really have a chance to "get away from it all"?

We love the chimes, the piano bar, meeting your cabin steward/ess, the smell of the ocean, having a cocktail on the balcony before dinner, and most of all waking up in the morning and not having to do anything but have fun!!

2 months, 5 days, 11 hours, 53 mins, and 17, 16, 15 seconds until our next escape!

I love coundown mode!

1. Getting to the port real early on departure day to get on as early as possible!

2. The thrill of sneaking on multiple bottles of champagne and other booze in our luggage, and not getting caught

3. Going down the "special" check-in line for the cruise lines we have FF memberships on

4. Getting ripped on some island, and getting back to the ship within minutes of them pulling the gangway.

5. [when in the Bahamas] Trying to find a bar that will fix a drink called a "What It Is" (a derivation of a Bahama Mama)

6. [when in St. Thomas] Going liquor shopping at the K-Mart.

My DH and I like standing at the back (ok, stern) of the ship after dinner when it's dark. It's really romantic watching the wake of the ship and the stars in the sky. If anyone tries this and decides to get a "little romantic" be sure and look up first to make sure you don't have an audience! (Like the end of the dining room!! LOL)

I love going to the casino on the first night, sitting in my favorite chair at the roulette table and getting to know my fellow roulette players who will keep me company for the next week while I win some $$.....I love when my hubby comes up behind me as I sit at that table and has a look of amazement on his face when he realizes how much I'm winning! :)

I love standing at the very back of the ship with my hubby holding me and we're feeling the breeze and watching the wake...it's so serene....:)

My wife and I (for some reason) love the ladies voice on the elevator on Carnival ships. Especially when she says "Lobby", "Verandah", and "Lido". If you know what I'm talking about you know how those names are pronounced by "her."

Also, love going out to our balcony on the 1st night in our robes. Nothing better.

1. Old - Racing back to the cabin after dinner or a show to see what towel creation is waiting for us!

2. Old - Seeing the ship for the first time.

3. Old - Clearing the last counter and savoring each step from the terminal to the ship and the excitement in the Atrium!!!!

4. New - Closing my menu and turning to the waiter and saying "I'm hungry, please take care of me." and the anticipation of the surprises he brings. (This is quickly becoming my favorite.)

5. Old - Standing on the bow as we leave the home port as long as we can.

6. Old - Standing at the stern as we leave each port and fixing the memories of the day.

7. Old - Finding your pictures from the photo boards.

8. Old - Putting car keys and cell phones in the safe and ignoring them for a whole week!!!

I could go on and on. But this is just too hard. Alaska here we come.

I cant wait to hear the Captains droning voice over the intercom talking about speed, knots, and weather in the mornings!! To me, that means IM CRUISING!! :D

Haha, me too! I love the talking elevators too! Whenever I am in one I always mock it, "Lido deck 14"

I would have to say the very best part is leaving the dock for the first time--knowing your whole cruise is ahead of you!

Hubby and I love the first early morning with coffee on our balcony, in our jammies, the sun glistening off the sea, watching us pull into our first port of call.

I have done it many times and still get chills each time.

I cruise with my Mom and my Aunt. We always meet in the cabin an hour and a half before dinner (whenever that is) and we have a cocktail on the balcony, then take it inside and have cocktails while we are getting dressed for dinner. I love every single thing about cruising (okay, I'm not thrilled with the muster drill OR having to put my luggage out the night beofre) - but the ritual of the drink whilst getting ready for dinner will stay with me forever.

Thanks for asking! Great thread!!

2 weeks + 6 days till the 07 cruise

needing it now

Before the cruise:

Comparing all the possible cruises and actually choosing one to go on.

Getting the cruise documents and doing the doc dance all the way from the mailbox.

Buying a ton of "cruise" stuff

Not being able to sleep the night before the big day because I am so excited.

Once the day gets there:

Loading the car and driving to the pier.

Being so pumped with anticipation that I am willing to wait hours to board.

Watching the sunset/sunrise

Stuffing my face with all of the tasty food on board
