Bayside at night

Our precruise hotel is the InterContinental down town Miami. We are getting in after dark and would like to go to Bayside market. We are not familiar with the area and safety is a concern. We've seen posts talk about the "people mover". Does it operate at night, and do you consider it safe? Its our understanding that Bayside is only a couple blocks away, how would you go there?

Thanks, Brian

From the Interc' to Bayside is just a couple of blocks along Biscayne Blvd

Int' is @ Chopin Plaza - ctr bottom - and Bayside is due north about 1000 meters.... if in doubt, take a cab. If you walk to/from PeopleMover which runs down Biscayne, then moves a bit inland b4 it gets near Bayside you'll cover 500 of the 1000 meters in an east west trnsit ! http://www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/transit/moverstations.asp

Biscayne is well lit and a main road - no worries - other than standard big city stuff.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn, directly across the street from Bayside Market Place; it was quite safe to cross over, but the Intercontinental is a block or two further and the area isn't Beverly Hills by any means. I think I would take a taxi at night. Maybe others feel differently. It is still a great area for those cruising the next day. If we had it to do over again, we would have stayed at Intercontinental.
