Has anyone become jaded about the midnight buffet?

Last year on first cruise had plans to go to midnight buffet but too busy during the day and tired at night. We did however go to the chocolate buffet, stood in line and everything look delicious. Took our plates to our cabin and were sadly disappointed. Not worth the line or late night.

The desserts at dinner were far better than anything I tasted on the chocolate buffet.

Back in the day, they had midnight buffets every night, with one "Gala" buffet. It was usually quite special. People got dressed up and had wonder in their eyes.

Last December, I escorted my mother to the picture-taking hour on the Radiance. Got to the second floor balcony, spotted my father waiting for her down on the first floor, watched to make sure mom got down there, and got out of there as soon as I could!!! :)

During the five minutes I was actually *there*, I had to turn to a twenty-something woman nearby who was pushing and shoving, and say "I'm sorry, but you are being extremely rude".

The buffets haven't gotten better over the years....it's the people who've gotten worse. No thank you! I can watch the decline of human society on the nightly news....no need to willingly insert myself into it! :)

It's funny. I've been to a few midnight buffets. I've never experienced any rude people. People will step back and out of the way if someone wants a picture minus the people.

I admit I've never gone back to eat anything since I'm not interested in a 4th meal for the day. Maybe that is when they get rude.

I've never seen a chocolate buffet. But there have been enough chocolate displays at the gala buffet. All I'd like to eat are the chocolate covered strawberries. And I get my fill of those at the platinum/diamond party.

Now I don't feel the need for any more buffet photos. There are so many things to do on the ship, I'll find something I haven't done yet and leave the midnight buffet to those who haven't experienced it or who like to pig out.

lovrccl- I agree! I'd love to see and even possible eat if it were in the day, but I have no desire, or need to eat at midnight. There is no hunger in cruising, but having never seen a midnight buffet I can say I'd like to, just not at midnight. LOL

I would prefer a less formal buffet. We won't attend another midnight buffet in the dining room.....too crowded, too much hassle, lines too long, and the food isn't worth it (except the shrimp and the chocolate covered strawberries, but I can live without them!)

I can understand that it can become repetitive, but the food is so good! :D

Personally I never get tired of it....and the chocolate midnight buffet on Brilliance was amazing. It's art...and it's good. (Well, chocolate is always good in my diet.)

All of the "unusual" stuff is always gone by the time we get there. We really wanted some yummy looking sushi on the AOS in 04, but when we got there it was licked clean. I do not remember any rude people though. We are going with newbies this year and I am sure we will be there at least for pictures.

I agree that the food is not THAT good!

i dont mean to offend any of you, but people act like complete ANIMALS at the midnight buffet. everyone is pushing and shoving and taking too much food that they dont even eat. if you walk around the halls later that night, you'll see all the food that is not eaten. they act like they've never seen food before.

I think I've been missing some of the cruise experiences others have had. I've never seen pushy people at a midnight buffet.

I've heard that there have been drunks passed out in the stairway on cruise ships, too. I've never seen this either.

And I do stay out past midnight on many nights.

The rudest people I've seen on a ship are the ones in the photo gallery who walk right in front of other people while looking for their photos. This has actually happened to me. I'll be looking and they will come and stand right in front of me as if I'm not there. I just leave and go back later.

While we were on the first three cruises, I intended to go to the Midnight Buffet, but never could stay up that late....

We still have never been, since we have heard how crowded, pushy, rude and not worth the effort the buffet is.

And we are never lacking for food on the ship.........

I have never seen any pushy or rude people - but the first buffet we went to I did see people filling their plates and then wasting the food. I noticed on the last cruise, though, at the chocolate buffet - there was not so much food, people were more careful about how much they took, and when the food was gone it was gone.

I personally like the "midnight bites" ,or whatever they are called, that waiters bring around on trays in some of the lounges. Much better than standing in a long line watching gluttons pile more food on their plate than they can possibly eat.

The exception is the Caribbean buffet on the pool deck. That always has some nice fruit which can be refreshing after dancing on deck with the cruise staff. Also with several stations set up, you don't seem to get the long lines.

OK I give up........when was the War of 1812? Ha Ha.:D :D And who is buried in Grant's Tomb?????

AHHHHHHHHHH...THE MIDNIGHT BUFFET...SIGHHHHHH. We used to party all night and dance our heads off and drink and dance and dance and drink...so the midnight buffet was a great place to stop off after a big night and have a little snack before going out and partying some more. Now we are older and do not party like we used to and do not dance like we used to. The music is not as good and the drinks cost a fortune...so we go to bed before the midnight buffet...LOL. Lifestyles have changed a lot in the past 30-40 years. The midnight buffet seems like a waste now...one gala buffet per cruise is fine.:D

Awww....I can't believe NO ONE enjoys those midnight buffets. :(

Granted...I've only been on one cruise that had a chocolate buffet and a then like a bbq and treats one up on the pool deck, but they were awesome!! Everyone is excited, and even if you just get a little taste of a few things it's a cool experience to be with the other cruisers swaying to the music out in the night air.

I will always go to the buffet...mmmmm...just for the experience if nothing else! :) :)

We don't go anymore but if we hadn't "been there and done that" I'm sure we would.

I think for new cruisers it's a "must see". The sculptures of ice & butter, food carvings, bread art and displays are really quite beautiful.

Can honestly say we've never been interested in eating tho - just looking.
