By the way Allen...how is that new/ old/ new ring feeling...???:D

I mentioned it on another travel board in which I'm very involved, and they gave me a "tough love' lecture about how it was just substituting one set of guilt feelings for another, so I'm not wearing any rings right now. I'm just going "commando". and getting on with whatever the newest phase of my life is. :)

I go to Galveston on Saturday and sail on Sunday. Woohoo@

Allen[/quote']That's cool Allen,

So what are you going to do on board as a first time solo/single cruiser that you have learned on this thread...????

Or what would you like to do...???:D

Keep it clean...well at least PG rated.

I really hope you have a great time.

Jeff

PS: I can kind of understand what they mean because of where the first ring came from but...you got rid of the other one you have been wearing for way to long. Buy a new one in a port that you like...no guilt attatched. :)

Jeff, I'm going to have a very positive attitude and pamper myself and not have to worry about accommodating another person's whims or preferences. And I'm going to enjoy the present and look forward to the future and not dwell on the past :)

I'm going to take advantage of the opportunities to meet people through my group's activities, the singles meeting the first night, and various "singles-friendly" venues, such as the piano bar, casino, disco, and various other bars and lounges, and I'm going to realize how fortunate I am to be able to have the opportunity to cruise in the Caribbean for a week:cool: .

Oh, and I'm going to start planning the next cruise!

For those of you how have not been following this thread...

No...it is not "R" rated...we just got off on a little tangent.

Allen is taking his first solo cruise.:)

I started this thread because like other folks we are a bit apprehensive about going it alone even though most of us have cruised before.

If you have been "lurking" and looking at this thread and need a boost towards doing it...read this thread.

If you have cruised solo before and can help get people...like myself...and others to make the "leap"...by all means help out.;)

Hi Everyone! I'm back from my business trip to PA - it was cold. But not as cold as it's gonna be in a couple of weeks! One more trip for business next week to KY then I leave for my solo on the Celebration. 1 Week from Today!:)

I am glad to see this thread is still active - maybe we can get up to 50K posts like some of the other threads - we have a way to go!

Jeff - Did you book that cruise?? I saw you posted on the solo board too. Good for you! You will get lots of good info there too I think. Also, in the "floataway lounge" board there is a thread for people from Florida. I have noticed that most of them sail on other cruise lines - but you might meet some interesting people on that thread.

Well - back on topic - with one week to go I am still feeling pretty brave and excited. I wonder if I will feel the same next week boarding the ship??:o

Thanks to all for your words of encouragement!

Welcome back Kathy.

No I haven't booked yet. Got some news from a friend of mine who is from Canada. He is a piano bar player on ships. He has been playing overseas in hotels but is now going back on ships for a while. He should know something over the next few days. If he gets a gig I am going to book on whatever ship he is on. If not I am just going to book one for myself out of Tampa.

Will let you all know soon.

Can't wait to here how Allen's trip will turn out.

Jeff

The first few hours may be a bit awkward. Do not let that bother you. Eat lunch, grab a foo-foo drink, unpack, take a nap and by the end of dinner you will have more friends than you may imagine. Even is it is still a little ackward, go to the dining room for breakfast the next (and all) morning. That is where I have really made my good cruise friends. Open seating. Pick a table with some fun looking people and just sit, smile and enjoy.

Go and have the bestest, bestest time.:p

I was married before I went on my first cruise, I wish I had known before or at least thought of it . Look around, there normally are very few Single Men and a whole boat load of Unattached Ladies hoping to meet Mr. Right on a moonlight cruise .

Seems to me that it would have been fun to have done solo , I must add , no desire to lose / change my life situation, but come on, it is better ratio of women to men than any other situation I have ever seen .:D

But most of those solo female cruisers are so self-confident, self-assured and independent that a quick fling (or Mr. Right?) on a cruise is the last thing they are looking for. May I speak up for us female solo cruisers and state that most are solo by choice and not necessary "shopping". And, it is so much easier to get the quick fling on land. The beds are bigger and the pickings are better.:p

No damage intended but a good time to set that myth to rest.

You would get plenty of attention but your ego may be a bit bruised when you realized that no one is "taken" by your availability.

Just noticed this thread, and think that there are excellent advices for Solo Travellers.

I've done 4 cruises as a solo traveller. And, I loved every single one of them. Particularly the last one. I did the Valor this past April, and it was excellent. Met a lot of people through Cruise Critic prior to leaving, so it was easier to make friends.

Then, they put me at a table for 8, every single one of us was single. We became fast buddies. We met up afterwards, to party the night away, some did excursions together.

I'm doing the Crown Princess in April, and will be meeting up with a couple from Chicago, whom I met on the Valor. So, I'll be getting the best of both worlds...

I think that a cruise is perfect for solo travellers. There's ample opportunity to meet lots of terrific people.

OK,

I was out with the boys today watching a few college football games today and shall we say...I have had a few...:D

The past couple of posts are interesting.

We have a person who just wants to meet people on a ship. (in the past folks have been a little stand-offish towards her.) Not just males.

We have someone who thinks that because the ratio is right (male/female) the first person will get lucky. (not that that is what she is looking for)

Still confused  on that one because if the % of females is higher than the % of males would not the odds be worse for a female to get lucky??
