Single Cruiser...Can You Have A good Time ?

but not to solo cruising. This is a great thread, thanks for starting it, Jeff. I've been going solo for a while, it is nice to have your own schedule, bathroom, etc. My best cruise ever was a solo through the Med, booked it through Globus but was the only solo in the group. Have done Sensation and Inspiration from Tampa, am about to book Inspiration for 1/20 I think, as a birthday present to myself. It's just too darn convenient to have the port here, take off on a Saturday for a 5 day cruise and get back in time for work on Thursday. Not bad... But reading the thread last night after turkey, it really inspired me to seriously check into a cruise and get out there (oops, wrong cruise line... lol). Called CCL tonight and got a really good quote for OV. Almost too cheap to pass it up.

CC roll calls are terrific to make new friends before you go - I met about 20 people prior to my AOS cruise and it was alot more comfortable.

I gotta add my comment, Joanne: MY freezing point is 60 degrees Fahrenheit! But I'm allowed, I grew up in the midwest shoveling snow. Now my blood has thinned out and I can never leave Florida again. Such is my curse...

Thanks again, Jeff!

Liz

Hey Liz,

I know what you mean about the temp here in Tampa.

It has been very chilly at night when I take the mutt out for a walk. She won't leave me alone til I do. It almost killed me one day when the wind was blowing at about 30mph...(joanne...that is miles per hour...don't even start on the convertion for kph)...BRRRRRRRRR.....:p

Was on the Sensation for a 4 night once. Had fun........:D ...I think.

Thanks for the nice words about the thread...glad I got it going.

Hey Joanne,

Freezing is 32 degrees in fareheit. Celcius is 0. So the only way to figure this without looking it up is ...

What temp does water boil at in Celcius?

I going to say it was 12 o 16 Degrees Farenhiet.

By the way...it was warmer today and by Monday it will be high 70's....:p

SORRY...

Jessemon: 0 degrees celcius is Freezing, and 100 degrees is boiling. So much easier ....

BTW, I can manage with the Miles per Hour, but prefer Kmh. Since, I can go faster... 100km/h = 60 mp/h

Joanne,

I found a conversion calculator on the net...

-5celscius is equal 23 degrees farenhiet.

Be 79 her in sunny Tampa today......:p

Visited with a friend who is a TA and booked 1/20 Inspiration. It seems CCL has some decent specials out there, really great rates for this cruise and upgrades, too. Paid for a 4A and got a 5A... so I'll have a window (okay, porthole but it's a first for me, at least when I'm paying for it!) Could have gotten a 1A for $391. It's almost cheaper than staying home, and no phone calls from work! Ta-da!

Off to the Roll Call... later, all!

Just like Vegas. What happends on a ship stays on the ship

So true!!!! I know I've done some things on cruises that would have made my life very unpleasent if they came off the ship with me!! :o

Sorry Jessemon, I think that I drank one too many. O zero is freezing, and 40 is about boiling... Don't know how I came up with the 100. I think that I desperately need a cruise right about now.

Seriously considering the Miracle out of Ft Lauderdale in October of next year. Love the itinerary...

Jessemon: Don't know if you follow hockey or not, but I am a huge hockey fan. Our Junior Hockey coach is the former coach (assistant) of the Tampa Bay Lightning, John Torchetti.

As much as I love the sunshine, I still need my hockey fix....

Hockey is good. It was really great when we won the Stanley Cup here in Tampa.

Jeff

Yes, Tampa Bay has a few players that played in our Junior League. Brad Richards, Vince LeCavalier, Marty St-Louis. Plus, Artukyn played for our home team.

Joanne,

Check out two things....Liberty sailing from Ft. Laud (Oct 13th or 17th can't remember the day now) and a thread on the Carnival board called Saints & Sinners 3.

I am seriously considering this cruise. It is a CC sanctioned cruise with many people who know each other and welcomed me with open arms.

Looks dangerous and fun.....:p

Good itinerary also. 8 nights..

I had to respond as this is funny....I did both of the things u suggested....being outgoing but a little shy as a single female in a bar environment...

I went to the Piano Bar on several ships but found they are the smokiest areas onboard, so had to avoid that as I hate smoke! It is a good place to mingle tho, if you don't mind choking! LOL

Also did the Lido/pool/bistro dining areas, I asked a person sitting alone, if I could join them...they said no! I tried one more time and found that the person was waiting for others to join them...

Now I need to tell you I am actually pretty fine to look at, take good care of myself and have an outgoing, happy personality, very friendly..(I thought)

I do not have 2 heads, or smell bad...LOL so what gives???!!

Still I will continue to "break the ice" my next trip in December! so any more tips would be appreciated by myself also as well as Jessemon!! Ha! Ha!

sheilb4,

I have to first say, I have never cruise YET alone. However, I have traveled on vacations by myself several times. Most recent to Las Vegas.

I have found that this approach will help with sitting next to someone: Instead of asking if you can join them...that might make them feel obligated to talk and stay there with you for a long period of time...just ask instead: "Is this seat taken?" Then they will have to say NO most likely unless they are expecting someone. That way you can sit down and join them, but they can also leave when they want and not feel like you are their companion for any period of time. This does not mean you can not start up a conversation...I do all the time. I first comment about the place (which we are sitting at) how I like it and then ask if they like the place also, etc. Then offer some info about myself: "I am on vacation and really enjoying myself here." etc.

Do not hit your table companions with a ton of questions at first. Just ask one question and then start talking about your experience (where you are at: ships/city/etc.) and they will warm up to you slowly. If they don't seem to be interested, then they are just not in the mood to talk. Don't take it personally.

Good luck on your solo cruise...I hope you have fun. I know I will be doing that soon one day myself also!

:)Happy Cruising!:)

Sounds like good advise...I will remember when I go on my first solo cruise this Saturday...only 5 more days.

Shielb4...Found out from my buddy doing the piano bar on the Veendam that it has gone to nonsmoking. For those of us who do smoke all we have to do is step outside to the sports/casino bar. I can live with that.

AGAIN...I would like to thank everyone for their help on this thread. It has helped me and it looks like others decide to go it alone. As I said earlier I will be off on a cruise this Saturday. Can't wait. Need to get away from town for a few days.

Can't wait to meet some of these folks.

3 days and counting..........

Get the formalities out of the way first:

1) Now don't go dissin' my Packers, anyone.... the Pack WILL be back!!

2) Jeff - have a great time! Don't forget to touch the Skyway Bridge on the way out - lol - something tells me you'll have a blast. Beware the thongs, regardless of color... photos can last a lifetime... and Disney said it all... it's a small world. Oh *%^#, now I'll never get that song out of my head...

3) VIP - we'll all be here for you while Jeff is off on his adventure... the support group meetings will be scheduled... and maybe Jeff will check in from on-board so we know he isn't too bored... yeah, spend a vacation on the computer.... NOT. I'm thinking he will be hanging near a pool or a bar, not a keyboard... as well he should...

Okay, the question for solos: early or late dinner seating?

Liz

Liz - My suggestion is the late seating. In my experience most solo's eat later - there are less families eating later. They will try to seat you at a large table with other solo's.

Jeff - Have an awesome time on your cruise. We will be thinking of you and waiting to read your review and all the new solo tips you have to offer!! Way to go - you will have a blast!!

Bon Voyage :D
