where are children NOT permitted on Serenade

Hello All,

As I have never sailed a Radiance class ship, I was wondering where children are NOT permitted on the Serenade?

I know when I first sailed the Vision class ships, children were permitted in the Solarium, but a year or so later, I heard they no longer were. That certainly was the case on the Voyager class ships we've sailed more recently.

Since we are planning on booking a cruise to Alaska, we're hoping we can enjoy the Solarium with our children.

They also love Jazz and we've seldom been able to take them to a place where they can hear Jazz on a ship.

Of course, I anticipate grumblings of children on a ship ... but know (1) we only take our children where they are permitted (2) we insist upon appropriate behavior (3) our children never deviate from the dress code... in all, we tend to attract very little attention, and we'd like to keep it that way -- hence the question.

Thank you for your assistance.

The solarium is usually adult only but on Alaska cruises they will have specific times during the day where kids can use the Solarium.

Children aren't allowed in the casino or in the night club. Oh and the specialty restaurants are for age 13 and up only. Basically as far as I can remember at this point they can go everywhere else on the ship that anyone else can.

When we were on the Serenade on a Caribbean cruise, children were not permitted in the Solarium. They were allowed to pass through there, but not stay. It may be different on an Alaska cruise since the outside pool may not be warm enough to swim in.

They are not allowed in the Casino.

I was too tired to participate in the night life, so I am not sure about those venues.

They may not be in the Concierge Lounge during the cocktail hour. They may not be in the CL unattended. :)

There may be some Spa limitations, depending on their age(s).

They shouldn't attend The Quest.

They probably shouldn't attend the Love & Marriage Show. :) Some of it made my kids blush, just because they were sitting with me! (and they barely qualify as "kids")

Thanks Carol, didn't think of the Concierge Lounge since I haven't gotten to use one yet.

We just sailed the MOS and loved the oasis of the solarium as they seemed to enforce the NO KIDS policy. It sounds as if you are really good parents, who enforce rules...however, one kid equals 25 and soon pool jumping, screaming and running would dominate. Kids will be kids; that's fine on the main pool deck but there should be an adults only area in my opinion.

In addition to the places already listed, children under the age of 18 are not permitted in the Viking Crown (Starquest Disco) Lounge at night. Not sure what time exactly, but I'd say after 10 if I had to guess.

On all my past cruises children ARE allowed in the solarium. They're just NOT allowed to use the pool or Jacuzzi's in the solarium. I'd just like to meet the genius at headquarters who decided to put the pizza and hamburgers in the solarium. Didn't they assume that just might attract children to an area where adults seek solitude?

Actually, the answer is somewhere in the middle. Children are permitted to enter the solarium to get food from the grill there, but then are expected to leave. They are not supposed to "BE" (i.e., spend time) in the solarium.

I can't answer your specific questions but I did want to say, as a childless couple (not by choice) I love sharing my space with interesting, well behaved children and admire parents who have expectations around their behaviour and dress etc. Otherwise how will they grow up to be interesting and well rounded adults if you don't. I would love to see some young ones, appropriately dressed for the evening enjoying some Jazz music with their Mom and Dad :)

Oh, and about attracting attention - from the sounds of it I bet your little ones will attract plenty of attention - all good!

We'll be on Radiance soon and I didn't know if the kids were allowed to play on the billiards table to in the card/game room. I know those areas are just off the schooner bar, so we didn't know if they could use those facilities during the day.

Thanks

I dont see any reason why not. I've never been on a Radiance class ship, but the Card/Game room is open to all on every ship i've been on.

The Billiards Tables are not in the card/game room they are in the club in the back of the ship (behind the Schooner Bar). From what I remember, the tables were 18 and over, but if no adult wanted to play they would allow kids to play with adult supervision. You have to check the equipment out from the Schooner Bar.

Here's what I found under........Guest vacation policies...........

( Except Alaska ) ***** During inclement weather, the solarium pool

( if covered ) may be used by children under 16 if directly supervised

by a parent or guardian from noon to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Young children in diapers/pullup/swimmers may not use the pools/whirlpools, even if accompanied by parent/guardian.

I hope this helps. happy cruising.

We are just of the Serenade, Hubbard Glacier,...(I dont know how old your children are...but) The children were allowed in the Soliarium (yes to swim) during what they called 'Family Time' there was a sign it stated something like "1-4pm" (something like that)..however, there were kids hanging out at other times also...

Also My teens were allowed to use the pool tables with several other teens (from the TeenClub) It seemed there was always one open, and no one seemed to have a problem with it...(mine and the group they hung out with acted appropraitely, so this may have been the reason they were allowed)

I think alot really depends on the ages of the kids, and how they are behaved...sounds like you will have no problems.

On our Alaska cruise on the Serenade this year, children were permitted in the Solarium everyday from 12-4, I believe because it was only in the 50s most of the time outside. Even during this time, there were very few childern in the Solarium. Of course,we went towards the end of the season and there weren't very many kids on our cruise at all.

Hello,

I cruised on the Serenade to Alaska this past September. There was a sign in the Solarium for passengers to be 16 years and older. The casino and the Spa were 18 yeas old. The disco I believe was also 18 years old. they do have a teen disco. This is truly a beautiful and elegant ship. Good for all ages. Enjoy!
