Any tips for child-proofing balcony door?

We've got 2 balcony rooms on the Conquest in 2 weeks. Our group includes my friend's 4 year old granddaughter. I've had a balcony before, but can't remember the doors (other than I think they were fairly heavy and didn't stay open on their own). Does anyone remember if they have a lock on the inside? Any tips for making sure the child couldn't get out if she woke up early while her mom was still sleeping? - She's well-behaved and doesn't do this type of thing, but let's face it a cruise will be a totally new experience! I'm thinking maybe we put a chair in front of the door at night, or could one of the beds be moved in front of it at night? - We're probably worrying too much but if there's anything to make things safer, we want to do it.... - Thanks for any help!

If the doors are anything like the ones on Grandeur, the 4 yo will have a heck of a time opening the door. It's heavy, and the way the lock works, she wouldn't be able to unlock the door anyway. The lock is difficult to operate, has to be rotated 180 degrees to the up position and held there while pulling the door open. I wouldn't worry, if you take reasonable precautions, she'll be fine. Happy cruising.

We we're on the Pridet and my then 4 year old could not open the door on her own. They are way heavy. Just be careful though. My 7 year old didnt move her hand quick enough as the door was closing and..... Didnt do any damage but it did hurt!

Also in case you didnt know,if youre rooms are next to each other, you can call and have the divider between the balconies opened to make one big balcony if you wish.

Have a blast!! She'll be fine ;)

Doors are heavy plus there is a slide latch up about 6 feet that can be used to lock the door out of reach of kids unless they climb up. It can be hidden behind the drapes and if you don't tell them, they probably won't find it.

We've taken a 6 year old, and my son has taken a tree-climbing 4 year old on a number of cruises, and have had no problems.

heck, I couldn't open our balcony door on Pride without using both arms and yanking. :D

(But we won't mention the fact that I spent five minutes trying to open it the wrong way:o )
