Drop off point in Paris for RC tours

Recommended Posts

Anyone that has taken a Royal Caribbean tour to Paris from LeHavre:

Where does the bus drop off/pick up for spending time on your own? The shore excursion guide says "city center" which says nothing.

Thanks!

The traditional drop-off and pick-up point is usually at the Place de Concorde. Its a great location since its within easy walking distance to the Louvre, Arc de Triumphe and the Champs Elysee. Paris is an easy city to explore on your own (to be on a bus is almost a crime) and you can easily get around on foot (the most fun) or by using the wonderful Metro (subway). Have a great cruise!!

Last year on the Grandeur, the Eiffel Tower area was the drop off point. Guess they figure you can always find that. We did A Taste of Paris, and wish we had done Paris on Your Own. Riding around in the bus for an extra hour and a half wasn't much fun.

If you are on your own, the drop-off point is not too important (as long as you remember your pick-up location). Keep in mind that Paris has an excellent very fast Metro system so its easy to get to almost any place within 20 min. As to bus tours, my wife and I think they are kind of sad. A few years ago we were strolling along the Rue de Rivoli on a gorgeous day enjoying the atmosphere (not to mention a few cafes). My wife noticed some buses stuck in traffic and you could see all the noses pressed up against the closed windows gazing at Paris. What a crime! Paris is a place that is best enjoyed by taking long walks and using the Metro when you only need to go a long distance (such as from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower). Our favorite activities in Paris are sitting in well placed outdoor cafes or visiting the Musee d'Orsay (one of our favorite museums on earth).

Thanks for your replies.

RHayes:

When you did the Taste of Paris last year, did the bus stop to let you get out and take photos, or were you on the bus nonstop until you were let off to go on your own?

Your suggestions about doing the Paris on Your Own tour are appreciated.

Psygist,

ANYPLACE in Paris is centrally located. There are sights to be seen everywhere. Every street holds something of interest.

I agree with the others who've said not to take a bus tour. Take your tour with your own two feet, and use the safe and easy metro to get to places too far to walk. Or, take a taxi if you're overwhelmed by the thought of taking the metro. Look for taxi stands at major intersections and hop in the first one in the queue.
