Just returned from Legend CTN-10/19-10/21 -- Review

My husband and I went on a cruise to nowhere aboard the Carnival Legend from 10/19-10/21. This was our second cruise, first time

on Carnival.

Embarkation

We live in the NY area so we took a cab to the terminal. We arrived at approx 11:45 and were in our cabin by around 1PM.

The cabin was almost ready so we dropped the bags off and headed to the Lido deck for lunch.

Food

We had lunch the first day on the Lido deck and had pizza. It was very good. They had a wonderful selection for you to choose from.

The first night's dinner I had the chicken satay appitizer, salad and the tilapia, some sort of chocolate

cake for desert. All were delicious. My husband had thesmoked salmon for the appetizer, ceaser salad,

and, New Zealand Lamb, also the chocolate cake for dessert. He loved his selections as well.

The 2nd/last night we both had the prawn appetizer, pumpkin soup, lobster tails and sherbert for dessert.

Everything again was delicious. The food was well presented and well prepared. We found everything to be

fresh and full of flavor. The only thing that we had on the lido deck was the pizza which as I said was

very good. We also had ice cream which was more like frozen yogurt. All in all I would say the food was excellent.

The service in the dining room was superb. Whatever we asked for we got, and quickly too.

Cabin

We were in Cabin 6149 on the Empress Deck. Our cabin steward was Wade and he was great. Very friendly and efficient.

He did an excellent job of keeping our cabin very clean and tidy. The first night he didn't make us those

towel animals but I left him a note the next day asking if he would make it that night and when we returned

there was this huge towel dog sitting on the corner of our turned down bed. He also brought fresh towels in

the evening and filled up the ice bucket. We had a balcony cabin and sat out there which was quite nice.

Crew

We found the crew to be extremely friendly, polite and nice. We would walk in the hallways and if there was a crew

member there they would always say hello to us and smile. We found the service to be excellent.

The Ship

The Legend's decor is a bit over the top with all the urns but it didn't really bother me. The cleanliness of

the ship was amazing. We would always see someone cleaning something. One time we saw a crew member cleaning

the walls in the hallways. They were constantly mopping, sweeping or scrubbing. The first night you could barely

feel the ship move except for a gentle rocking. The second night was a totally different story. There were high

winds and a lot of rocking which made me nervous. Everyone said that the captain had the stabilizers on. I can't

imagine how it would feel without them. Our cabin was toward the bow of the ship so we did feel the motion. I

think the next time we cruise we would get a cabin midship because there was much less motion there. We also went

into the hot tub which was very relaxing. We didn't go into the pools because the water was too cold.

Entertainment

We went to both shows and they were very entertaining. The second night we saw an R rated comic in the late show.

I can't remember hisname but I wasn't too impressed.

All in all we had a fabulous time. There were only 2 complaints that I have. 1. It was way too short. By the

time you get on, it's time to get off. We didn't do much sleeping. 2. The ashtrays on the Lido deck weren't

emptied that much.

I would definitely recommend Carnival to anyone. They are a great cruise line with excellent

service, fabulous food and lots to do.

I'm going to book a longer 8 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. Now that will be a cruise!!! :D

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Sandi :)

Sandi, I'm glad you had a great time. I hope this helps you make up your mind about your next cruise. I was concerned that you wouldn't enjoy the CTN since the shorter cruises often don't reflect the true flavor of a cruiseline.

Hey, Sandy!

You were on the Balcony? What was the outside temp. like? Did they get very far off the coast?

And, which Miracle sailing are you doing next spring? Just as a reminder, the earlier cruises out of New York (before school lets out) are a little lower in price...

I too have been waiting for your review. Actually took a look yesterday. With all your preparation, i was wondering what your thoughts would be.

My two memories of my CTN were how enjoyable it was, but how SHORT it was.

Hi Sandi,

We were looking at this cruise for next October. Can you tell us what Friday was like?

Were you able to stay outside on deck, or was it too cold?

Also, was there a band playing by the pool? In other words, did you have to stay inside the whole time?

Thanks for any info.

Hi Baseballdad,

Yes we had a balcony cabin. It was not cold at all and we were able to sit out there most of the time except for Friday evening (2nd/last night) because there were extremely high winds. That ship was rocking and rolling  They even had to close all the outside decks because of the high winds. Originally we heard that the captain was going to sail down to South Carolina but there was a storm down there so he headed east towards Montauk and kept zig zagging around. We were also able to go into the hot tubs. The pools had water in them but the water was too cold to swim.

We are planning to sail on the Miracle June 4th of next year. That is the cruise that I am looking forward to. :D

Hey Mr. Pete:

Definitely way too short. We had so much fun but it was not relaxing at all. I knew that beforehand because we were on another CTN years ago. I was very impressed with the service and food aboard Carnival and we are definitely going to be sailing with them again.

I do appreciate you answering all my ??? about the ship. :)

Hi A.S.

Friday was the one full sea day. The evening was formal night. My husband and I did get dressed up and we saw a lot of people in formal wear. Some people didn't get dressed up though. There were two men at our table who didn't know that there was a formal night on such a short cruise. There was no gala midnight buffet unfortunately. I guess it would have been too much preparation in such a short amount of time.

We went outside most of the time except for Friday evening because as I said in my other post there were high winds and the outside decks were closed off. The ship was so rocky. I was getting kind of nervous because of it. I asked our steward if the captain had the stabilizers on and he said yes. I can't imagine what it would felt like without them because even with them on, it was still very bad. A lot of people were sick because we saw "those bags" taped to the walls. :( Ohh and yes the band was playing out on deck both Thurs and Friday during the day. They were a very good reggae band. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. We met a lot of nice people too.

It's definitely not a cruise for drunks as some people think a CTN is. People were drinking but I'm sure you have that on the longer cruises too.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

I'm curious if they closed the retractable roof (look carefully). Here's a shot from our CTN a couple of October ago, and notice someone is swimming in the open pool.

Nope the roof was not on. You really didn't need it. If the pool water was warmer I would have gone in, but the water was too cold. I think they should heat those pools.

I suppose all one need do is ask. On our Legend cruise last year, the rear pool was heated (In May) on certain days. You could see the steam rising in the morning.

On the Miracle the year before, in July, they heated the front pool (the one past the bandstand pool).

But both were not heated all the time

We cruised the Legend in September, what a fantastic cruise!!! We loved the ship and the crew, left with a few of their emails, and have kept in contact with them! We have also sailed the Miracle, which as a ship I liked better, but the two experiences were equal! Cruisin is just fun, no matter what!

Fiestacruiser, why did you like the Miracle better? I am planning on booking that ship out of NY for the June 4th, 8 day Eastern Caribbean trip.

My husband and I were also on this cruise.

Sandi's review was right on. We have a fun 2 days and would do it again in a heartbeat. I also think the Miracle is a nicer ship. I liked the decor on the Miracle plus it was a newer ship.

Hiya Disneylynn :)

Everything was great wasn't it. Although the rocking and rolling of the ship on Friday evening was not fun at all. :( Especially in the dining room. I didn't get sick but I think for the next cruise I will take those Bonine pills.

Hi Sandi,

The only time I felt sick was friday night at dinner, we had the 8:15 seating. We dined at a table in the back, up against the windows on the bottom level right above the engine room. I had to lie down for about 1 hour after dinner.

I felt much better after that and I met up with my husband in the casino, He was doing very well.

On your next cruise try ginger pills they work great and you can get them in walmart for around $3.00 a bottle
