agabbymama Posted November 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2006 I know I read here somewhere about a bus in Juneau out to Mendenhall Glacier for $6 pp. I did a search and only came up with a city tour bus for $22 pp and that isn't it. I know I'm not dreaming, it had directions where to catch the bus and everything. Can you help? Thanks. Forgive the misspelling of Juneau, but the time I saw it, it wouldn't let me edit it. Cruisechick82 Posted November 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Yes, there is a bus to Medenhall for $6pp each way. (Or at least that was the rate this year.) Mighty Great Trips is the main company that runs the blue glacier express buses every 30 min. to Mendenhall and back. You just buy the tickets from one of their booths at the dock. We took the $22 city/glacier tour also with Mighty Great Trips which allowed 45 min. and Mendenhall. We were also able to stop by a salmon stream, Chapel by the Lake, and drove past other sights in Juneau. (It was pouring down rain so that might have affected our tour slightly.) Budget Queen Posted November 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Frontier also runs a glaicer shuttle bus, you purchase tickets at the dock side booth, one right next to the tram, another set of booths near the library.
agabbymama Posted November 10, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Thanks for the prompt responses. It sure rained a lot this year, hope we have better weather next year, but I know August is the rainy month, but also the least mosquitoes for the land portion of the cruise/tour. :p
Budget Queen Posted November 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2006 It's funny, I did not go on a second trip to Alaska this year in August, but have gone in that timeframe for about the last 10 years. NEVER did I ever encounter any significant rain, maybe a day or two, but overall great weather.
ghouck2532 Posted November 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2006 Alaska had an unusually rainy summer this past year. According to Northstar Trekking in Juneau, they've never had as many flights canceled as they had this year. 2005, on the other hand, was fairly dry. Hopefully, we're in an alternating year cycle. Cruisechick82 Posted November 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2006 It rained all day long when we were in Juneau. We couldn't even see Medenhall very well when we went there. Luckily, our helicopter flight wasn't cancelled and it was barely raining on the glacier.
