carolemom3 Posted November 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2006 Just returned from our first ever cruise on the Mariner (Eastern route, w/Captain Johnny). There were 10 of us in 5 balcony cabins on the 6th floor. First meeting with our room steward, I asked if the balcony dividers could be opened. He said no problem, called his supervisor for the "key" and the dividers were opened within the hour. We figure we had a 65 foot long balcony! It was great being able to go back & forth between the cabins without going out in the hall. Before you ask, we are all related - we were on board to celebrate my mom's 79th birthday. Just one piece of the vacation of a lifetime!

carolemom3 Posted November 20, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted November 20, 2006 My mom had an amazing week - she won the bingo game where they gave away a 7-day cruise for two. Then the next day she won $3,000 on a slot machine in the casino!
Mugga Posted November 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2006 We were on the Navagator in September. We asked the room steward to open our balcony doors and he said he could not do that. The Captain had the key and he would not allow them open. When I asked initially at the pursors desk he told me to just ask the room steward and he would open them. We were disappointed but just thought that was RCI's policy. Interesting!!!

Maddle Posted November 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2006 Wow - how cool is that? Next week we will be on Adventure, three balconies in a row. I wonder if we could convince the steward? On the other hand, I don't know if each member of the party wants other members of the group able to just walk up to the glass door.....? cb at sea Posted November 20, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2006 I'd rather have some privacy--family or not! I figure there are so many open decks that are NOT attached to my room, if we want to gather as a group, we can do it somewhere else!!!!
Maddle Posted November 20, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 20, 2006 Yes, "privacy" is kind of what I had in mind....I don't think my own family will think it is too great an idea after all....sometimes you just need a breather. But if it is a good idea for everyone concerned, I can see the advantages of it. Maddle
carolemom3 Posted November 20, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted November 20, 2006 When we wanted privacy we just closed our curtains. Couldn't have any "fun" on the balcony - there was a large camera pointed our way...I was too shy to risk it! :o It was the first time we'd all been together in 7 years - we were thrilled to have the balconies open!
