Going from Houston to Galveston.

I'm taking a cruise out of Galveston, but I'll be flying into either Houston Intercontinental or Houston Hobby. What is the best and least expensive way to get to Galveston a day before the cruise and from which airport. Thanks in advance.

Galveston Limos is the shuttle. I am told it is about an hour from the airport (Hobby) to Galveston. It is even longer from the IHA.

It wouldn't have taken so long from IAH except the shuttle driver went around in circles for 45 min.

Galveston Limo is the one and it's not cheap, IMHO.

Enterprise car rental.... one way... no drop off fee... about $35... plus have car for 24 hours

hobby is closer -- we couldnt use it so we went to bush intl --rented a car from enterprise one way ----on the way back to the airprort we hired a van and driver there were 4 of us and luggage --didnt want to deal with the return car

When we had checked on this earlier this year, we found the cost of the limo to be around $100........that was way high in my opinion.

 

I would suggest that you go into the rollcall forum, find your cruise, sign up and see if anyone is hitting the airport the same time you are and wants to split the transportation.

Getting a rental car is the cheapest. We saved about 50% over the shuttle.We are going to Hobby because we got cheap flight with Southwest.1 way we used Hertz with free shuttle, return hertz 1 way picking up car at Cruise Ship Terminal, giving us time to make return flight. They charge a bit more for 1 way. Used AAA discount. Check Enterprise like other poster said.

Hobby is about 40 minutes closer to Galveston than IAH, also it is a much smaller airport. I've read posts of several who have rented & were told they would have to pay a drop off fee & were not charged it.

Just checked with Enterprise and there is a $40 drop fee.

hmmmm... I have rented with them a number of times... most recent 2 weeks ago.... never a drop-off fee....might try Galveston Enterprise office direct... I always did...

Yes per person. It can be quite a bit cheaper to rent a car and drive yourself, even if you get charged the drop-off fee. In my last three trips, I haven't been charged it anyway.

Unfortunately there isn't a good cheap way to get from Houston to Galveston. They've kind of got you over a barrel. Galveston needs a bigger airport so cruisers could fly in direct.
