Ms411 Posted December 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2006 I'm considering a Digital Photography cruise on Carnival's Fascination in September 07. Anybody know of any others that I may want to consider? I can only go from May - November. Thanks!

Ms411 Posted December 12, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted December 12, 2006 I found this photography cruise through the Chicago Digital Photography Meetup when I did a search for "photography cruise." I joined that Meetup group, eventhough I don't live in Chicago so that I could stay in the loop about the cruise. So far, I've RSVP'd yes. It's Sept 10 - 14, 2007, and prices for cabins are $379 - $419 for the cruise and photography lessons. According to the instructor, Rick H. who's the founder of the Chicago Digital Photography Meetup, they'll have lessons at sea, and you'll practice the tips taught in the classes while you're onshore. After shore time, students will show/share their photos for group review. The travel agent for the cruise is CruiseSmiths, sponsoring Chicagoland Photography Cruising, and their number is 877-330-3351. I tried to call them this weekend to make a reservation, but their message says they're out of the office until Dec 12. I'm trying to slowly move up to an SLR, and just bought a Canon ultrazoom. This cruise sounds like the perfect opportunity for me to get live, professional feedback at a decent price, and see someplaces I haven't seen. I'm not wild about the itinerary - it's the lessons I'm more interested in.

TravelAgent Posted April 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2007 There is another photography cruise that I booked a client on August 19th - 26th on the NCL Pearl with Cruising Through Life. Kraz_Eric Posted July 25, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2007 This is right up my alley...obsessive photographer here... Will keep an eye out on cruises next year...this is the only theme I may have to leave the wife at home...or off to do her own thing...lol...I'm in my own little world with camera in hand... Even a short cruise would be cool with this them...but longer is always better! In fact, this is the whole reason I went into "Theme Cruises" tonight....lol

Ms411 Posted December 30, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Glad to see this thread's come to life again. I think this site sponsors a cruise every year, and I'd love to go, but timing is never right for me: http://www.dpcorner.com/cruise/ Also, http://www.geekcruises.com does a Photoshop cruise every year, but that's not what I want for now. Also, their schedule doesn't work for me, either. Maybe I should just get another job????

viper88 Posted January 9, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2008 As a teacher (photography is a course I teach) I need to earn so many credit hours every 5 year. Can I earn credit for going on this educational cruise?
Ms411 Posted January 10, 2008 Author #12 Share Posted January 10, 2008 I would submit a copy of the class schedule to whatever credentialing association, and see if they would grant credit for the courses. I think you would also need some type of certificate of completion for each class so that you could submit it for your credits. It usually isn't a problem. JDubya71 Posted May 8, 2008 #15 Share Posted May 8, 2008 aren't all cruises good for photography?
eschrad Posted May 31, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 31, 2008 aren't all cruises good for photography? I would say all are good for general snapshot vacation photography, but not for serious photography. Most cruises spend less than a day in a particular port, docking after sunrise and leaving before sunset. I would imagine photography-oriented cruises have schedules better suited to shooting at those "magic hour" times and offer excursions that take people to optimal photo locations allow them to spend considerable time there taking pictures. Serious photography outings are slow-going with tripods, lens changes, filter changes, working different angles, etc. And while on board, there are advanced training sessions and critiques... some even have printing stations.
