We'll be arriving in Ft. Lauderdale on the afternoon of the 23rd for our cruise on CB the next day. We're staying at Amerisuites and would like to take a taxi to the beach area or ??? and go for a walk and find a nice but reasonably priced restaurant. Any suggestions are really appreciated!

thanks!

Pass on the taxi and hop on the Sun Trolley. It runs every 15 minutes and you can hop on and off wherever you like. You can pick it up next door to your hotel at the Harbor Shops. Get off at Beach Place, a number of reasonable restaurants including Fat Tuesdays, Sally O'Brians, Sloppy Joes, and my favorite Lu Lu's Bait Shack all overlooking the ocean. ;)

I should have mentioned another option, that being the Water Taxi. You can pick it up at the Ft Lauderdale Grande and cruise the intracoastal waterways. The taxi captains will point out the homes of the rich and famous as well as other facts and stories of the area. Get off at stop #11 Las Olas Riverfront for a wonderful selection of nearby shops and restaurants.

Bequia: we just went on the CB on 12-3 and we went on the water taxi and really enjoyed it thanks for the info. We stayed at the holiday inn on 17th street and went to a steak and sports theater by the publix market on 12-2 that was really good. One of the best steaks I have had in a long time. It is a really nice place to stay and walk around.

Whenver my hubby and I sail out of Ft.Lauderdale, we get around on the watertaxi and have dinner at the Mediterrean Restaurant on the strip. It is fantastic. We tried others but keep going back to that one. Great service, great food. Sorry I can't remember the name but it is obvious which one is Mediterrean. We love sitting outside and people watching while we eat. It amazes us how many young people (17-20 year olds?) driving by in 40-50 thousand dollar vehicles!

Good luck and happy sailing! :D

When we stay in the area, we always try and have dinner at the 15th Street Fisheries. It's on the higher end, but you can have dinner on the 1st floor and still get all the extras of the upstairs restaurant. You can sit outside, right on the water. Great food, great atmosphere. Have fun!

If you mean Dec. 23, by all means hop on the water taxi and take a ride through the canals to see the Christmas light displays along the way. We did that last year during the Christmas season and totally enjoyed viewing the various homes all lighted up for the season. It was like an excursion in itself.

Here's another vote for 15th Street Fisheries, but they're under new management now with a very strict dress code! The downstairs menu is also different from the upstairs menu now, so you cannot get the same amenities there any longer.

Blue Moon Fish Company is my absolute favorite with wonderful food and service, but pricey.

Athena's Grill at the Sea is a wonderful Greek restaurant, reasonably priced, with belly dancers on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 p.m.

84 Thai Food is a wonderful Thai restaurant, reasonably priced.

Lulu's Bait Shack had good, reasonably priced food, but it was too loud to have a pleasant conversation, in my opinion.

There's a pub across the street from the Embassy Suites with good reasonably priced food as well.

We were disappointed with 15th street. Well, nothing was really wrong but after all of the good reviews here it was nothing special on the night we went. We did not leave with that "we will return" feeling.... And generally we are not hard to please. Could of just been our luck and a off night...Who knows.

There is a small restaurant on 17th Street called Giorgio's (no relation). We have had lunch there several times and food is great. Sandwiches are fantastic. They also serve dinners and the place is always crowded. Very reasonable and just a fun place to eat. It's located in a nondescript little shopping center close to the Radisson. There are several other good restaurants on 17th Street. Also a good Mexican restaurant across from Giorgio's.

Another Recommendation for Water Taxi!!!!

Get off & on whereever you want -- it runs about every hour -- suggest you take one way in daytime and get off in the old downtown/Las Olas area and get back on after dark. BEST DEAL AROUND!

We have also had lunch twice at Bimini boatyard & enjoyed it both times, but it is NOT on Water Taxi route.

Another suggestion is going to top of Pier 66 hotel -- revolving lounge -- great view of cruise ship harbor, intercoastal waterway etc.

There are no Radisson Hotels in Ft Lauderdale.

The revolving lounge is no longer open to the public.

Chilly, in the mid-70's. Should warm up by the weekend though.

This should help:

17th Street Area

Tara Steak & Lobster is right next door to Extended Stay America (which is next door to Holiday Inn Express)... http://www.tarasteakandlobsterhouse.com/

FISH recently opened just east of Tara’s, you just have to try the Chilean Sea Bass, freshest fish in town….http://www.fish-fl.com/index.htm http://www.fishfl.com/index.htmSoutheast 17th Street Causeway

Carlos and Pepe's (Mexican) & Durty Harry's (bar with food) are in the same shopping center as Tara. There's also a small diner in that strip mall.

Einstein Bros. Bagels is across the street from Holiday Inn Express.

Bimini Boatyard (tourists love this place) and Bravo (great Italian restaurant) are both across the street from Holiday Inn Express, and about a block east, opposite the Renaissance Hotel... http://www.bravoitaliano.com/

Jack Jackson's new restaurant FISH is across the street from the Renaissance hotel, attached to the Convention Center complex at the entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.fish-fl.com/

Chuck's Steakhouse... http://www.chucksflorida.com/

And Waxy O'Connors are both across the street from Embassy Suites, a long block west of Holiday Inn Express... http://www.waxys.com/

Outback Steakhouse and Del Rio Tex Mex are just west of Embassy Suites, and Quarterdeck is across the street and a block north of Embassy Suites on Cordova Road, just beyond Winn-Dixie... http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com/

Original Steakhouse & Sports Theatre in the Harbor Shops plaza behind the Embassy Suites offers ten 8’x6’ tv’s covering all the major sporting events. Kid friendly family restaurant. Happy hour Mon-Fri 4-7pm. http://www.equilibrix.com/originalsteak/originalsteak05_05.html

Kelly's Landing is a great New England style seafood place in a strip mall on Cordova Road, across the street from Winn-Dixie.

If you want some excellent ice cream, Aspen Ice Cream is in the large yellow strip mall across the street from Tara and Carlos and Pepe's... http://www.aspenicecream.com/

There are 3 large strip malls around Holiday Inn Express - More or less across the street, next door, and behind, as well as several smaller ones. There are at least a dozen other small restaurants scattered throughout those strip malls, plus a number of fast food and carry-out places in the area as well... You'll never go hungry along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste and budget.

Those are just the ones that you can easily walk to, if you take the Water Taxi you can easily get to dozens more. The nearest Water Taxi stop is 2 long blocks east, under the SE 17th Street Bridge, in front of the Ft Lauderdale Grande (former Marriott Marina) ... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

Some popular places easily accessible from the Water Taxi are...

15th Street Fisheries... http://www.15streetfisheries.com/

Jackson's Steakhouse... http://www.jacksonssteakhouse.com/

Shirttail Charlie's... http://www.shirttailcharlies.com/

Fort Lauderdale Riverhouse... http://www.ftlauderdaleriverhouse.com/

Downtowner Saloon... http://www.downtownersaloon.com/

Shooter's, and at the same stop Taverna Opa... http://tavernaoparestaurant.com/

Charlie's Crab... http://www.muer.com/locations/chcrab...ab-ftlaud.html

The many many restaurants and shops along beautiful Las Olas Blvd... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/

And Las Olas Riverfront... http://www.riverfrontfl.com/

And don't forget to take advantage of the Sun Trolley:

We love the Rustic Inn. It's not too far from the airport and port areas. Totally casual and they are known for their crabs.
