atlantis nassau decision

We are taking our first cruise on sensation with two of our kids ages 7 and 9. Both are familiar with Atlantis from the internet/tv etc.. and want to visit more than anything (waterslides out of pyramid??). The ship arrives in Nassau at 10am and leaves the next am, debating on whether to reserve a hotel room at the comfort suites for $200 and spend the whole day at atlantis which gives the kids access to all of the resort, has anyone done this? is it worth it? Also we are cruising in feb, not 100% sure if it will be warm enough for the water attractions. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Momofthree:

I think your best bet would be to get a room at the Comfort Suites if you want to use the waterslides at Atlantis. I have only been there once (from 10am-3pm) and found out that if you are not a guest you can only walk around on their grounds/aquarium and in the hotel/casino. We werent able to use the waterslides or amenities which was ok with me. We just went to the beach right next to it and afterwards walked around the atrium area with all the shops and casinos then stopped in the main lobby bar for a couple of drinks.

It is a very neat place! Hope you enjoy it! :D

I have not done this, but heard of others who have. However, having been to Atlantis, I would highly recommond it. My husband and I have been there twice, both on business, and were unable to bring our kids. Both times, all we kept saying was, "I wish the kids were here!!!" It is such an amazing, awesome place for kids. And, in my opinion, taking the cruise tour would just be torture, as your kids could only be able to watch the fun, but not access any of the "good stuff." Go for it!

Yes do this. Of course don't actually spend the night at the hotel. I'm doing this in November for a Disney cruise

Having been to Atlantis four or five times I can say we really enjoyed the place. Expect the water to be cold in February. Of course cold is upper 60`s low 70`s and that is cold if you are in it. It can after a cold front be even colder. The ocean at Atlantis is free the food and drinks are very pricey around the pool chips $4.50 water $6. The slides look bigger in the pictures. For kids that age I am sure they would love it. The Comfort Suites deal I think includes the cost of the dig tour as well. So take a chance and book the room.

:) We are going back to Nassau again on 2/8/06 this time on the Sensation.

 I have a room at the Comfort Suites booked for June and can't wait. The only issue we are having is that the other family with us has 5 people and they are requiring them to book two rooms. They only allow 4 in a room eventhough we will never step foot in the room...I guess they want to control the number of people that get in but I would think that they would be happy to just re-sell the room since we aren't going to use it...

We did this in May of this year and my kids had a ball. They loved all the water activities. The lazy river and all the pools along with the water slides. They had such a blast and they have been begging us to just go there for a vacaction by itself. I would defintely do this with your kids.

Mine were 9 and 11.

I am really glad to be able to give some good advice on this subject, I found out this little trick from the internet in conversation and it works............. go on the website for Atlantis, write down the phone number and keep it with you . When you get to Nassau go to a phone booth (right at the end of the peir) and call and ask if they have any "day rates" available............most of the time they do and it is about $99. this is good from 7am- 9pm, you get the use of the room for up to 4 people and 4 "wrist bands" that make you a "guest" with all the guest privlidges like, using the water slides, and pools, movie theatre, clubs etc!

If you are on the 3 night 4 day trip then usually it is Captain's night" on the ship the day you are in nassau. so wear your bathing suits and casual cloths over to Atlantis < bring with you your makeup and hair products that you will need to dress for captains night.........check into your room.........leave all things in the room and go and enjoy everything Atlantis has to offer as one of their guest. About 1 1/2 hours before your dinner time on the ship go back to the room shower and do your hair and makeup, throw on your casual cloths and get a taxi back to the ship, slip into your dress cloths on the ship and go to dinner........you can finish dinner and go back to Atlatis and enjoy the casino and the "dig" or you can just enjoy the rest of the evening on the ship. this way you are not cramped getting ready for Captains night in the cabin bathrooms.........the hotel bathrooms are roomy, have hair dryers ..........you are ready for Captains night , just have to slip into your "dress cloths" and your READY!!

We did this with 6 of our children last year, we booked 2 "day rate" rooms and received 8 wrist bands, played on the beach, went on all the water slides , enjoyed all the water rides and pools (many pools) and had plenty of room to get ready for captains night! Our kids are older so we went back to Atlantis after dinner on the ship and enjoyed free drinks at the casino, some clubs , couple of the boys relaxed in the rooms watching TV , checked out at 9pm (you don't actually have to check out, it is automatic) and went back to the ship and enjoyed some ship activites the rest of the night.

It was a blast!!!! Hope that helps!! by the way, if you ask anyone on the ship or almost anywhere they will tell you they never heard of a "day rate" at Atlantis.........they don't advertise it........but beleive me it does EXIST and it is GREAT!!! Good luck and enjoy!

If you were adults only I would tell you not to waste the time or money on Atlantis, (think Las Vegas hotel, with a lot of swimming pools) however, with your children my advice is rent the room at Comfort Suites and think of it as the cost of an excursion.

By renting the room (we spent a week there) you have FULL access to Atlantis as if you were staying there, including the pools, towel service, charge privileges, and THE DIG (the aquarium).

Adults tend to think that it is no big deal , but your children will love it and you will be able to sit and enjoy watching them have a great time. If you are snorkelers there is a large tidal pool that you can snorkel in right on the grounds that has a fair number of fish but not a lot of waves.

It will be well worth the cost for you.

What time of year did you go? I am going in June and I would guess that there wouldn't be any day rates available since it will be the summer..

We went in September! I am told they they usually have "day rates" all throughout the year, so just go ahead and try it!

Day rates are NOT always available. They are unbooked rooms, sold same day. First come, first served. They are currently $200 a nite.

You should appear at the hotel desk before 11am to get a "room".

Room availability depends on Capacity. If you are going off season, there's a good probability, in season., not so much. Atlantis oventimes is at full capacity, and even overbooked at some times.

There are only a limited amount of rooms sold this way.. and it's getting more popular and the news is spreading fast.

If you are SURE you want to go.. book Comfort Suites. If your winging it... wait and call them upon your arrival.
