wentworth Posted January 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2007 Hi We are getting off the Liberty on March 11 in the morning. Plane home is not until 6:15 pm. Would like to rent car after deportation and tour Fort Lauderdale. Are there any car rental agencies at the Port? We would like to drop off the car at the airport. I'm guessing this is the easiest way to spend the day and to pass the time. Do you have any other suggestions..........our problem is where to put our luggage if we don't rent a car. Thanks for your help Joyce
Dagny Posted January 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2007 I live in Ft. Lauderdale and can provide information for you. The port is right beside the airport and thus no more than a $10 cab fare. However, quite a few car rental places are authorized to service the port and many offer free shuttle service to their facilities at the airport. Some possibilities, with toll-free numbers, can be found at: http://www.broward.org/port/cruise_passengerinfo_transportation.htm Renting a car for the day is a good, cheap solution for your day in FLL - enjoy :)

Hi Joyce, Besides the many car rental agencies at Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood International airport there are also two located on the port perimeter that your fellow CC'ers prefer over the airport location. One is Thrifty Car rental located at the entrance to the port on Miami Road and the other is the Budget Car Rental office on SE 17th Street in the Quay Shopping Center. Both offer easy access, quick in and out and you can still drop the car off at the airport when your finished. ;) Have a great trip! /////
wentworth Posted January 15, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted January 15, 2007 Dagny and Bequia Thank you both for your info. Was able to book a Thrifty car rental with a shuttle that will pick us up at the port. I appreciate your helping out and what an asset to the boards to have other cruisers willing to steer us in the right direction. I'd like to return the favor sometime but you'd have to be driving, not sailiing to NH.:p Thanks again Joyce
Jim B Posted January 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2007 Bequia. Just wanted to say thank you for your help with our stay in FLL 01/08/07 before our cruise. The Embassy Suite was fine. Must say it is getting a little worn in the suites, but it was very clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was good as usual. Tried to go to the Steakhouse behind but there was a two hour wait to get in. We ended up at Outback Steakhouse and just happened to get a table that was perfect for watching the Bowl game. Back to the hotel for the 2nd half. Thanks again for your help. PS Our cruise on the Seven Seas Mariner FLL to Manaus Brazil up the Amazon River was fantastic!! Dagny Posted January 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2007 wentworth: no problem - I dont have a lot of time to help out on the boards but I try when possible. You know, probably your best bet is to try hotwire or priceline. I am told they have have been getting the cheapest rates lately, (a lot cheaper than booking direct), and they all seem to offer complimentary pickup/dropoff for the port/airport, etc. when requested. It's a thought anyway...*smile* I will surely ask for assistance when next I am in NH - thanks! Have a blast and cheers :)

I'm sorry you couldn't get into the Original Steakhouse I was really hoping to hear what you thought about it. Oh well....next time.
