Getting cash at the Casino

This will be our second cruise with Celebrity and there seems to be many changes that are taking place within the line, i.e. liquor, food etc. So I thought I would make sure I ask.

Can you still get cash from your visa, American express cards that you use to secure the onboard charges at the casino cage?

This was sure a nice perk last trip.

Hi: I wondering how exactly does this take place as dh and I want to try this on our next cruise. It sure seems to be a great way to get cash for the ports we stop at. Do you just go ask for cash or do you have to get the equivalent in chips and cash them in at a later time?

Thanks folks.

Just ask for cash.

AND, should you have on board credits of any kind ( stockholder credits, on board booking credits, that sort of thing) you can cash them out using exactly the same process.

That is a great thing to know. Those stockholder credits are another nice perk.

Anyone can take up to $2000 a day on your sign and sail card, from the casino. You can have either cash or chips. There's also an ATM machine right outside the main casino, in the area where there are machines for non-smokers. No % charge for taking out the cash.

We haven't sailed with X yet, but on our previous RCI cruises the casino was always closed when in port. We went to get some cash the morning of, but no-one was there. Does anyone know if this is also true with X?

I know when we needed to then use the ATM in the casino, it charged $4 or $5 to my bank card. Maybe there wouldn't be a charge if I had used my credit card?

On all ships, casinos and shops are required to be closed while in port. So..best do your transaction the night before. There is no charge on X if you put it on your seapass, but there is a charge if you use the ATM machine for a credit card. And the $2000 per day is correct for charges in the casino to the seapass.

Hope this helps.

AS far as I know the only lines that charge for getting money from your cabin card are Princess and Holland America. I hope the other lines don't start charging the 3%. It really isn't that much but it's the principle of the thing. NMnita

Carnival charges the 3% fee also.

It was to close a loophole that some passengers took advantage of - charge a bunch of cash on your frequent-flyer card, pocket the cash, and deposit it back on the card after the cruise. You'd be surprised at what some people will do to get a few thousand free miles.

The cruise line has to pay the CC company a fee, so they just want to recoup it.

On the other hand, most people will gamble (and lose) more money if there are no expenses in accessing the money. I think Celebrity is smart to not have the fee!
