gomomgo Posted January 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2007 OK, so we're not world travelers. We'll be going to Chacchoben ruins then Tequilla Beach based on recommendations and wondering what is safe to drink and eat? Do I have to have a luke-warm margarita? Stick to beer? I have heard that in the port compound you don't have to worry about the water, but what about at Majahual? Any other warnings of things not to eat (I've heard salsa is a no-no, but guacamole is OK?) gaviota Posted January 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2007 Enjoy the drinks with ice. Most, if not all of the ice used at bars is purchased from an ice company. The water used to make the ice is purified water. Single serving foods tend to be safer. Foods like salsa on the table are subject to the double dip - and a greater chance of contamination. The risk is low - you could just as easily get sick eating at Taco Bell in the states. Missing local food is like missing some of the experience of travel. jetskier Posted January 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2007 It is not the food or ice that you have to worry about in Costa Maya but the alcohol content. Two large margaritas at the Cat's Meow and you will be crawling back to the ship. Tell Jorge the guy who keeps bringing all the crazy ladies says hello. Drinks, Ice, and Food at TB are all OK (At least it was for us in Nov '06). We enjoyed several (ok many) adult beverages and consumed way to much in the form of snacks the day we were there. The only problem we had was forcing ourselves to leave the beach and return to the ship. :D
Rare hcat Posted January 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2007 Where is the cat;s Meow--in the tourist compound or the town?
jetskier Posted January 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2007 Where is the cat;s Meow--in the tourist compound or the town? It is located in town not the tourist trap. Take the bus and it is the second stop. There is a street where cars are not allowed to travel. It is the 3 or 4th place in. Dave
