Vicar Posted July 29, 2004 #254 Share Posted July 29, 2004 Bring your minks, rabbits, chinchilas what have you to the lido deck pool/slaughterhouse. I will already be there with the cows, i can whip you up a nice fur coat while the beef is aging. I just ask that you drop the minks off by noon if you want the coat ready by early seating. St Thomas, USVI - May 26- AP Effective May 3, 2004, tourists visiting St. Thomas can now choose to fish from their cruise ship in lieu of going ashore. Fishing from cruise ships is now allowed in port while the ship is docked. Any cruise ship allowing fishing by their passengers must add $160,000 US to the Port Entry fee to compensate local business owners for lost tourist revenue. Norwegian Cruise Line spokesman Hans Svaag said NCL is banking on the idea that additional revenue will be generated by equipment rental and bait sales to would-be fishermen. Though NCL requires that all bait must be purchased from the ship's bait store, some passengers have reportedly ordered additional meal items, particularly seafood, during the dinner meal to use for bait the next morning. A reporter has seen people baiting their hooks with lobster tails, California Rolls (sushi), Clams Casino, and peeled and deveined shimp similar to those served in the ship's Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. Initial reports indicate that the idea of port fishing is "catching" on. See photo: Well, I made this up, of course, for my fishing buddies last month. But I have laughed so hard reading this thread I thought I'd add this to it before it fades away. Thanks revneal, et al!

Vicar Posted August 1, 2004 #272 Share Posted August 1, 2004 That $160,000 sounds a little steep. I was wondering if we could throw some depth charges overboard and just keep the fish that blow out of the water onto the Lido deck. Technically that is not considered fishing , so I wouldn't think that fee should apply.
