agabbymama Posted January 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Our cruisetour is August 18-28 on HAL Zuiderdam 1. On the HAL website, it says we leave Fairbanks at 7:15 am on the dome railcar, but we don't arrive in Denali until 10:00 pm. Does it really take that long to get there? Or are they possibly including the Tundra Wilderness Tour time and then we get to the hotel? 2. We arrive in Anchorage at 8:00 pm, is there still going to be places open or things to see? or do? 3. When speaking of herding like cattle on these tours, do independent travellers get on the same train cars at Whitepass Yukon RR, tour buses at Denali, etc., or are they dedicated to the HAL cruisetour passengers. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Budget Queen Posted January 10, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2007 The train gets into Denali park at noon. By time you are transfered with your bags to your hotel, it will be later than 8pm. Stores will be open, but you may just want to walk up the hill if the shopping is important?? Then walk to your hotel if close by?? Otherwise, certainly this evening will be mostly a wash. No all the trains/ buses are for that particular tour group. The Tundra Wilderness bus does fill all seats unlike the shuttle buses. The "herded" reference is more for the waiting/ loading/unloading and more waiting you frequently see with the tour groups.
