Has anyone wondered what happened to Premier Cruise Lines?

Well, obviously they went bankrupt and all of that...

Years and years ago, my parents took a Premier cruise and they said it was amazing.

Years later, I took a premier cruise and also found it to be amazing.

I am thinking of beginning my own small cruise line and calling it Premier Cruises International. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas as to how to do this, or if anyone would wish to try and help out in any way, I would be glad to get an email from you.

I cant offer anyone any money, because this is still just an "idea"

But, maybe it will become more than that!

If I remember currectly all the ships of Premier were repossessed in middle of cruises. The SeaBreeze sank off the VA/NC coast. The Oceanbreeze then did two day trips, I think with Regal cruise lines. Don't know whatever happened to "The Big Red Boat" which I think had a connection with Disney.-That was before Premier bought the Dolphin line with SeaBreeze,OceanBreeze abd Island Breeze. WE loved the smaller ships and do miss them!

Count me among those who miss Premier and its ships.

Here's info on the other ships Premier owned when it went out of business in Sept 2000.

Oceanic, also called "Big Red Boat," was sold to Pullmantur (spelling?) of Spain shortly after Premier ceased operations, and still sails for them as Pullmantur Oceanic.

Rembrandt, which for most of her life was Holland America's Rotterdam, was laid up in Freeport for a few years, and will be returning to Rotterdam. See link: http://www.ssrotterdam.net/

IslandBreeze has since been scrapped. :(

Seawind Crown was also due to be scrapped. :(

And, while not part of Premier when the line went under, OceanBreeze has since been scrapped. :( :( She was replaced on the two-day FL-Bahamas route by Regal Empress.

Any idea where the Majestic is? When I started cruising in the late 80's, Premier had two ships that did Disney land/sea cruises: Oceanic and Majestic...

Any idea where the Majestic is?
Ah... Yes, actually, I do. After Premier sold her in 1995 or thereabouts, she was chartered to CTC Cruises (Ukranian-owned, UK-based), and renamed SOUTHERN CROSS. In 1997 she went to Festival Cruises (First European in the US) who renamed her FLAMENCO and spent a lot of money refurbishing her. You can see what she looked like as a Festival ship in 2002 here from Das Ruderhaus.

Earlier this year Festival went under and the ship was sold to a Ravenscroft Shipping of Miami who renamed her ELYSIAN FLAMENCO, then NEW FLAMENCO (her current name) with the intent of getting into the business of owning and managing passenger ships to then be chartered out. She is now operating cruises for the Spanish tour operator Travelplan.

The Oceanic...ah! This thread brings back some great memories. I took my first cruise on her, in 1991 when she was still owned by Premier, with my husband and my parents. We had a wonderful time, and I still fondly remember the most delicious papaya soup I had for dinner one night. Sigh.

Sorry, I have no clue how to start a cruise line. My only tip is, make sure to have some papaya soup on board.

Here is a bit of trivia in case you didn't know. At one point, Premier Cruises was owned by Dial Corp., the same company that makes Dial soap. This was about 10 years ago and was sold because it didn't fit with the rest of the Dial business.

Atlantic is now Melody for Mediterranean Shipping Cruises. We saw her several years ago in St. Thomas and she looked wonderful. She was our first, as well.

Thank you for the information Lisa63. It's nice to know that she's still out there sailing.

That must be BRB II (or Edinburgh Castle) in Freeport, as the other 2 BRBs have departed. (BRB I is Oceanic, and BRB III, IslandBreeze, was sent to the scrap yard.)

Here's another interesting bit of trivia. Premier's first ship, which they named Royale, was sold to Dolphin Cruise Line in the early 90s. The same ship returned to Premier several years later under her most recent name -- SeaBreeze.

Gosh, how I miss her.

I thought that the Majestic was no longer with us....in fact I thought I remembered reading that somewhere -- but the pictures sure look like her -- sailed her twice -- once as the Sun Princess (the Love Boat that really started it all with the original "pilot" movie) and again as the Majestic

We have a lot of memories

I was aboard Majestic for her Inaugural season with Premier .... "Abacodabra!"

After Premier, she was the Southern Cross for CTC, still in Premier Red. Then she became Flamenco and now New Flamenco. She was origianlly built to be a twin sister to NCL's Southward (now Seawing) to be called Seaward. Through contract disputes, NCL gave up the option on her. She was finished as Spirit of London for P&O, and eventually transferred into the newly formed Princess Cruises as the original Love Boat, Sun Princess.

We sailed one of the final cruises aboard the SEABREEZE. It was a 7 day cruise, and cost us about $79, plus port and taxes. We even got a free bath robe, which is hanging by the hot tub here at the house! Such a deal! I knew they were in trouble when I booked the cruise, but figured it was worth the risk. It was a really great cruise! Entertainment mostly the crew, but very good. Lots of seafood in the dining room, but once again, excellent. I sure hated to hear they scuttled the old girl, but glad we had the chance to sail her before the end.

Happy sailing!

Although I never cruised on the SeaBreeze, I toured the ship a couple of times when it was in Halifax, Nova Scotia while my son was working on board. He was stage manager in September 2000 at the time the ship was ordered back to port at Halifax and arrested.

My son's employment introduced me to cruising - IslandBreeze March 1999, Rembrandt February 2000. After Premier, I moved on to Royal Caribbean - Grandeur Feb. 2002, Brilliance Feb. 2005.

PCG, did your son work with the comedian Lenny while on SeaBreeze in 2000? I can't remember his last name, but he was once one of the writers for Benny Hill. We were onboard in August 2000 and saw Lenny's show, and he had me laughing so hard. My husband was selected from the audience to be in the show, as well.

We were to return in September 2000 but that was not to be. :(

Ocean Breeze and Premier Cruise lines have both gone. The Ocean Breeze (ex SS Southern Cross ) met her end on a lonley Chittagong beach being broken up for scrap. Her full story including her time with Imperial Majestic Cruise Lines is a http://www.maritime.com.
