Volendam 1-2-07 short review

We got back yesterday from our 10 day Panama cruise on the Volendam and thought we would post a short review (longer one later). Remember these are our opinions and others may have had a different experience.

 

Embarkation - Arrived at 11:45 on the ship by 12:40 - lines were long and only 4 agents checking people in.

 

Boarding - Line was held up as usual by the photographers but once on the ship they seemed to not bother you. Cabins were ready by 1:30 we were in 6188 and our steward (Matt) met us in the cabin. He was very attentive and friendly during the whole cruise.

 

Dining - We had the 6:15 seating table 104 (6) Waiter was Asep, Asst Waither Iskander, Head Waiter Donny. This trio was outstanding during the entire cruise. I am allergic to onions and they made sure no onions were in any of the dishes I ordered. Donny the Head Waiter could be seen assiting tables that needed a little extra attention, he was very good. As for our table mates we rotated through 4 couples (more on this in the longer review).

 

Ports of call - Aruba, Curacao, Panama Canal, Colon Panama and Limon, Costa Rica.

 

Needless to say we had a great time and met may interesting people. It should be noted that the show cast was leaving the ship at the end of the cruise. The wait staff will be leaving at the end of the next cruise. And on our flight home we had 3 or 4 of the bar staff on the flight with us and they indicated that the ship will have about a 60% turnover in staff by March. Also the Pinnicle Grill Chef left at the end of the cruise.
