whatnow53548 Posted January 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2007 We sailed on the Glory last year and really enjoyed it. We are thinking about booking it again this year but I am curious....does anyone know if the shows would be the same again this year or do they change them every so often? CruiseCentric Posted January 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2007 We sailed on the Glory last year and really enjoyed it. We are thinking about booking it again this year but I am curious....does anyone know if the shows would be the same again this year or do they change them every so often? Because of the cost of costumes and set design, shows usually change every 2-4 years.
redskin80 Posted January 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Not often enough. We cruised in 2003 and again in 05 and 06. We saw the same shows all three times. Not actually all three, after we realized it was the same in 05 and 006 we just got up and walked out. The only show worth seeing over is Marcus Anthony. He is a singer who does Motown songs. We saw him in 05 while on the Liberty in Europe and was so pleased that he was on the Liberty again this past December when we did the Eastern Caribbean. hdawson Posted January 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Production shows are very expensive. Hundreds of thousands of bucks. I think most cruiselines contract with Production Companys such as Opryland Productions. Sets, costumes, royalty rights, rehearsal times on land and sea and talents, are all at US union scale. Some performers have done Broadway or Vegas and some are on their way or filling time between gigs. They aren't ametuers or semi-pros as some have suggested. OhioJeff Posted January 14, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Interesting info about the dancers on this website, this info appears to be 3-4 years old. http://www.danceart.com/mirault/carnival.htm
yogimax Posted January 14, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Not often enough. Great answer! For first-time cruisers, the shows are great. For those of us who have seen them, it's deja vu all over again. Even different shows look all alike. You can sail Carnival, RCCL, whatever... all the shows seem the same! hdawson Posted January 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Sue. Maybe it's time to try a different cruiseline for variety. I've had some great entertainers and production shows on RCCL, including the Platters and that great impersonator of Elton John. BTW. The Platters were as good as ever. Standing ovations for both shows. They boarded on St Maarten and were on till we arrived back in Miami.
