ryzmom Posted January 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2007 For those who have had either or both of these done, I have a question. I just don't know the answer to this and thought I would ask you girls, since you all are pros at everything. My husband for Christmas purchased me a gift certificate for $200 to the Facial Surgery Center for either 4 Facial Peels or 2 Microdermabrasions. I wanted something that I couldn't take back/return. I just don't know which one to pick because I don't know the difference between the two. What is the difference in what they both offer? What are the risks? Advantages or Disadvantages in both? What's the best for which type of skin? Thanks for your help! Deana
momofmeg Posted January 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2007 Jane 110 told me a few months back the differance-if you do a search it may come up-I know the peel will leave your face red and peeling-almost like a sunburn-the other doesn't-or have I got this backwards? Maybe Jane will post and explain the differance or you can do a search and read her explainition. The post I am talking about was around 3 months ago. Jane110 Posted January 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2007 Derf's links provide many of the answers and basically reiterate what I posted some months ago. The best thing to do is go to the spa and have a skin consultation and they'll determine what's best for your skin. My skin is considered "good skin" - no acne scars, almost no wrinkles - but it's also thin and delicate. The few places I've been to have all agreed that microdermabrasion is not for me (too harsh) and a peel is better. I've had two peels and understandably the attendants who do it proceed with caution. However, they used such a mild solution, that I never saw any difference. But I have friends who love it. It would probably work well for me with a stronger solution. I do use a microdermabrasion at home which is much less powerful than the professional one, so it's enough for me. BTW, I recently had a "foto facial" aka IPL (intensive pulse laser) treatment and it got rid of some broken capillaries around my nose as well as lightened some freckles. ryzmom Posted January 18, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted January 18, 2007 Thanks for your help to everyone that posted! I think Microdermabrasion might be the best for me. I will though get a consultation first to see what is right for my skin. I appreciate it! Deana

Happy ks Posted October 13, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Good information for many who wonder. Did you happen to notice the OP posted the question almost 5 years ago? So many old questions are being resurrected on these boards I'm starting to check thread dates first off.
