We are sailing on April 13th. Is it true that Wee Jimmy (aka Ralph) will be the CD?

That's the word we hear. He should be boarding the conquest today!!

I have a question, unfortunatly the search function is down and I didn't want to search through 98 pages :D. I know that the Pointe is the fine dining restaurant and that it has a $30 a piece charge. Do the other non-dining room restaurants have a charge, such as the sushi place or the fish and chips place?

The only other food that I think you have to pay for is the Deserts in the Cafe Fans on deck 5 near the sushi bar. You can also buy Saki at the Sushi bar for a small price. $4 for a small carafe, that is about 8 ounces or so. I didn't care for Saki.

Okay, I need to get my parking booked for our cruise this weekend. Anyone have strong feeling for/against EZ Cruise or Lighthouse?

Also, I had heard you could go to the casino to get a cash advance on your credit card without having to pay any fees, is this true? Or maybe it was that you could get cash and it ended up on your sign and sail...I can't remember. I'm heading to the bank to get money for the trip and didn't know whether to get a bunch or play it safe knowing I could get more on the ship. (Without fees) :)

I would recommend bringing cash from home. There IS a fee for getting cash from your credit card, I think it's 3%. Also, they run low on cash toward the end of the week, and you might not be able to get any. Better safe than sorry.

We are booked at Lighthouse. We used EZ Cruise last year. Went with Lighthouse to save a few bucks. EZ cruise was fine. Maybe we'll see you on the shuttle from Lighthouse

HEY, just a thought, it's 11:30 am my time--this time next week, I'll have met everyone on the roll call :D

We're just back from the Conquest. We used Lighthouse this time. We used EZ Cruise previously. The service at Lighthouse was great. The shuttle bus picked us up at our car and loaded the bags for us. After the cruise they loaded all of our bags for us and dropped us off right by our car.

Lighthouse's lot is raised. EZ Cruise's lot #2 is not raised.

The bus driver did say that it is best to get advanced reservations. They are filling up every week and are having to turn people that don't have reservations away.

We used Port of Galveston parking last week for our Voyager cruise. They were $65.00 if you pre-book and pay in advance on line. They were easy to get to, picked me up right at my car, and when our cruise was over, they were parked right outside the exit door from the terminal. Less than ten minutes on each end of the cruise.

Port of Galvestons states that they are the only cruise parking that has regular patrols by the Galveston City Police since they are run by the city.

Although the other lots for Lighthouse and EZPark are also fenced and locked, so I would think any of them would be OK.

We like EZ for parking, but that is just us.

As for getting the "Cash Advance" from the casino, the slots have now gone to a "credit card" type with your sign and sail card...and there is no "fee" associated with it. If I need some extra cash for EXCEPTIONALLY good service, I just to to a machine, put in $200 for the credit..spin the wheel once or twice, and cash out. No 3%, no problem when the ATM has had the "temp out of service" sign on since the beginning of the cruise, and now that they don't let AMX card holders get cash at the pursers desk anymore (use to!) and I REALLY don't like using my ATM onshore...just in case.

Hope this helps! :)

They don't charge the 3% when it goes onto your sign and sail card? I thought they did that in the casino, for some reason.

If you all have a cruise booked during these dates you might want to check with Carnival. My TA just called and cancelled our cruise. Waiting to see what dates our group can go!

This was to have been our first cruise...I am so disappointed...Now I need to see if I can find another date for the same price and get the same cabin....

If you go to the casino cash cage and get an "advance" (i.e. to play the table games or whatever) then yes, they have you sign and the 3% is added...but NOT if you get it in "credit" on a slot. Guess they figure that you will play whatever "credit" you requested vs cashing out some of it.

I think the limit is $200 each day, and it does get charged to your S&S card.

So sorry for your cancel....especially for your first cruise.

You should tell your TA to work with Carnival and ask them what they can do for your given the fact THEY cancelled your cruise to keep your business...I am certain that they will make it worth your while. As a cruise "virgin" you are not "tainted" towards one line or the other (something that happens over time to all of us that cruise, you start to build "preferences") and Carnival does not own ALL the different lines yet (altho they are sure working on it!

Ask, it doesn't hurt to ASK!!! :) A call to Carnival saying "what can you do to make this up to me" might be well worth your while! :)

On our B2B on the Conquest last June, we were on the last sea day before port and a gentleman had to be airlifted by the Coast Guard from the ship.

They made the announcement about 45 minutes prior over the PA system, asking everyone to clear the back of the ship.

The staff was very effecient in getting the area "cornered" off to ensure that once the helicopter got there, everyone was out of the area. We all (yeppers, like EVERYONE) got up on the top deck to watch the evac from the midship area.

It was most interesting to watch, the helicopter never landed on the ship, but circled several times (I assume watching for the best position/winds) and then hovered down about 5 decks off of the water (man, we were all worried...it is WEIRD to see a chopper lower than the ships deck area) after it had downloaded the rescue folks on a rope to the back of the ship.

They then got the gurney cage uplifted, then the two rescue folks and off they went. Of course, the entire crowd broke out in applause and hoots and hollars "thanking" the CG for their service, and one of them actually waved as they flew off.

We never found out, but sure hope the guy made it ok. We did see a lot of staff walking his family down the hallway...you could tell it was his family as they were distraught...and your heart just broke for them.
