Cozumel Snorkeling

Cozumel itself was damaged, but the reefs below are better, worse and the same as before. In some pl;aces the winds destroyed the reefs, in other places it uncovered some real neat rock formations, in others it had no effect, so YES...fill in whatever you want but do not miss snorkling in coz!!

Snorkeling frrom the shore at Coz was pretty good until Hurricane Wilma. Unfortunately, the near shore reefs suffered extreme damage. The coral was virtually destroyed and will take a long time to recover. The outer reefs, such as the aforementioned Palancar and Columbia, experienced far less damage and are still world class.

However, if at least two of your "Three Reef" trip are to outer reefs, you'll be good to go.

We have just come back from Cozumel where we arranged for a snorkeling tour with Roswitha of Mystic Snorkeling. It was terrific! She first brought us to a very special place with lots of star fish and then we went on to Palancar reef and Columbia Shallows. Roswitha and her assistant actually were in the water with us all the time, reading the currents and leading our small group accordingly. Needless to say, I felt safer than on any other snorkeling trip! We saw abundance of fish and coral and did not feel we were missing anything at all. It was definitely The Highlight of our cruise. How would we get to Palancar and Columbia? Who should we use?

Another vote for Eagle Ray Divers! They were great and took us to ares with outstanding sites. We say a nurse shark, rays, barracudas! The coral where they took us was making a strong comeback. GREAT!

That's great to hear that Dzul Ha is building back up. We want to try a trip to the deeper reefs in the morning and maybe end up at Dzul Ha in the afternoon on our own.

We're trying to get up a trip for Sept. 7 with Roswitha Flury but still need several more snorkelers to go along to bring down the cost. If you are interested in a more personalized trip than the cruise ship "cattle boat" snorkel trips, please check out the info on Roswitha in the post by Gala above and contact Roswitha directly. Hoping to meet you on board with Rosy on the 7th!
