TrojanJulez Posted February 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Hello! I stumbled onto this board while exploring Cruise Critic... I have been interested in a river cruise in the US, but I'm not sure how to pursue this (there are soooo many rivers - how do I find one that is cruised?) or what a good line is. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
Rare steamboats Posted February 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2007 TrojanJulez, There´s one big river cruise company now, Majestic America Line, which is operating the three former Delta Queen Steamboat Company paddlewheelers on the Mississippi River system, three boats on the Columbia River system (former Great American River Journeys and American West Steamboat Company) and two boats in Alaska (Empress of the North, former American West Steamboat Company, and Countess, former Glacier Bay Cruise Line boat). MAL has a separate board http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=102 On the Mississippi River system you´ll also find RiverBarge (one boat) (http://www.riverbarge.com/). Columbia River, Mississippi River and Alaska are they main regions for river cruises in the US. There are some small (and more expensive) boats on the Hudson river and other rivers (check for Cruise West http://www.cruisewest.com/ and there are some more out there). You might also check our website http://www.rivers-rails.com/ which has reviews, fact sheets, photos (we´re no TA, we don´t sell any cruises). It´s up to you! steamboats
