Do cruise ship casinos serve "free" drinks?

I've been watching the great liquor debate with interest, and have a quick question I haven't seen mentioned.

Do the casinos serve "free" (ha ha ha :p) drinks like they do in Vegas or do you have to pay full price for them. We're not big gamblers but we do like to play a bit, and ya might as well drink "free" while you're at it. I assume you'd be expected to tip the cocktail waitress.

Thanks for the help. We've never cruised before and have many questions!

No, you have to pay for the drinks in the casino. Sometimes they'll comp a drink here and there if your a big gambler.

As a rule, cruise ship casinos do not comp drinks. After all, they're the only game in town - not much reason to provide extra incentive to the gamblers since you can't walk across the street to the competitor's casino.

That said, on NCL, I have occasionally received a comped drink. If you're a regular in the casino and the pit bosses end up recognizing you, they may buy you an occasional drink. But it's definitely not routine.

Also (at least on NCL) they have a casino launch party at the beginning of the cruise where they serve free rum punch. It's only for a little while (half hour I think) and the cups are small...but it's free booze if that's what you're looking for.

No free drinks on the cruise lines. Great idea but you can imagine that they'd run out of liquor. A ship full of people drinking from morning to night for 7 days ---- at the prices the cruise lines charge, how could they afford it....

Happy cruising!

I think the comment about no free drinks was meant to mean "no free drinks on mass marketed lines" As for Celebrity, I don't know as I don't know anyone that is that much of a high rollar. NCl will offer rum punch the first night; maybe for an hour or so and the Sun, last srping had a ladies night, starting at either 11pm or midnight, free drinks for the gals. Other than that , no, it isn't Vegas, damn!!!!

Several of the RCCL ships including the Jewel of the Seas have a program in the casino whereby you insert your SeaPass into any of the slot/video poker machines and you earn points. These points can then be redeemed for drinks, entry fee to tournaments, cover charge for speciality restaurants, logo shirts etc. We are hoping that RCCL moves this program throughout the fleet. A $5.00 drink coupon "costs" 125 points.

It is important to know that the points expire at 11:00 pm on the final night of the cruise so you should either redeem as you go or ensure you get to the casino cashier before 11:00pm and at least get a shirt or final drink coupon. I watched a number of people on the last night go up to the desk with over 2000 points and it was really too late to use them for anything other than some logo shirts.

On any given cruise on Celebrity, I've seen about 50 or so passengers who received free drinks in the casino. Our family is part of their Casino Club, and we have a card that gives us free drinks in any Celebrity casino.
