Need help picking Excursions

Recommended Posts

Wondering if someone could help....not only is this our first cruise but it is the frist trip alone in our 12 years of marrage!

We are trying to pick excursions for the Western Caribbean. We were thinking of the Catamaran Champagne Sunset Sail and or Snuba in Key West. Which is the best place to eat, drink and relax, Grand Cayman or Cozumel? Or does anyone have any better suggestions????

You know, excursions are a matter of taste--what do you like to do? Are you into "physical" stuff, like zip-lines, snorkle or scuba (you mentioned Snuba!), or do you want to shop? Do you care about the history and sights of a given port? Do you want to chill out on a beach somewhere?

We seldom do excursions anymore. We'll go to the beach (no excursion necessary) or walk around town for a while. We've found that port days make a good time to really make use of that ship you've paid alot of money to be on!

When we do excursions, we don't really want to get off a ship and onto a boat for hours, unless it's taking us somewhere inaccessible by land! That's just us, I guess!

Whatever you choose, have a nice "2nd honeymoon"--Bon Voyage!

Wow, I can not believe you are from Fredericksburg VA. We lived there 2 years ago, what a small world!

We have heard so much about the Catamaran's that is one thing we would really like to do. Another is jet skiing and snubsing. Other than that, we love the beach, drink, food and SUN!!

The must do excursion in Grand Cayman is the Stingray City sandbar where you can swim with the rays. If you just want a nice beach day in Grand Cayman, Seven Mile Beach is great. There are several beach clubs on Seven Mile Beach that cater to cruise ship passengers and sell day passes. The day passes are different prices and may include chairs and an umbrella or the more expensive day passes will include food and beverages. When the ship stops in Grand Cayman you will go ashore by tender. There are taxis waiting at the tender pier. You can just tell the taxi driver to let you off at one of the beach clubs. The taxi fare will be $4 or $5 dollars per person.

In Cozumel there are many nice beachs. Most of the cruise lines sell passes to Playa Mia so it's usually very crowded. The passes to Playa mia don't include transportation so you still have to pay for the taxi on your own. It's actually cheaper to take the taxi there yourself and buy your own day pass when you get there. Another nice beach in Cozumel is Paradise Beach. There is no charge to get in and they have free chairs and umbrellas. The catch is that they expect you to purchase food and beverages in exchange for the "free" chairs. If you were going to eat and drink anyway it's a great deal.
