Wennfred Posted February 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2007 Just got word from the Cruise Director Michael Mullane that on the 4 day Paradise cruise, the Casino is going Smokeless. sike43 Posted February 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2007 that idea has to be a flop, smokers drink and drinking leads to gambling and so on and so forth. i cant wait to see the outcome, i hope everyone likes it, its worth a try to see what happens. Wennfred Posted February 8, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted February 8, 2007 When we sailed on the Paradise in the Carribbean out of Miami, she used to be the only Non-Smoking Ship around. I remember that cruise was SOLD OUT. And I also remember the Casino was busy at night. I don't know why that got rid of the Non-Smoking ship, I thought it was a great idea.:) Chances are drink sales were extremely down. Fred
GottaLuvCruising Posted February 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2007 I usually can't bear to be in the casino long enough to lose my roll of nickels :) so this is excellent news. I hope it spreads fleetwide before our Legend cruise next year. OT - I love Michael Mullane and have sailed twice with him and his wife, Jeni. I can't believe they put such a talented guy on a 3 / 4 night cruise ship!

Out of all the Englishmen CD, Michael Mullane is also my Favorite! last time we spoke, he told me he would be back on the Spirit, probably to do the Alaska Cruise because he is very knowledgeable with Alaska etc. Michael Mullane is a classy guy. yogimax Posted February 8, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 8, 2007 This is indeed good news ---- unless Carnival is actually hoping it does not succeed. It could be argued that the original Paradise fiasco was structured in such a way as to ensure failure.

Email reply from CD Michael Mullane: Hi Fred, this is something that is being tried on the Paradise for the 4 day only and it's success is being monitoredRegards Michael Mullane Cruise Director Carnival Paradise Thank you, Wennfred, for getting more specific information. I posted the original message on the other thread and I saw it bothered some people who wanted to be able to smoke in the casino. Now people will know the casino is smoking during the 3-day and non-smoking during the 4-day. I hope this trial works out and becomes permanent. It's nice to have an option and I'm one of the people who spend a great deal of time (and money) in the casino.
Wennfred Posted February 8, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted February 8, 2007 No problem Rie, I just didnt like how people on the original thread started calling you a liar, as if you had anything to gain out of it. So I took it to the next level and emailed the shotcaller, Michael Mullane. Don't worry about what people say on here, most of it is funny. No matter what you say, someone will always get their feelings hurt. :D I say lets cruise and be happy ! Hope to see you on a future cruise. :) Fred

Reason for a new post, to get away from the Debates of the other threads :D As of today I know if I book the 4 Day Paradise, the Casino will be Smoke free, and thats the info Im putting out. Fred How in the world is a new thread misleading? I am sure a new thread was started because the last one had ceased to become informational and had turned into a debate of the tobacco trade and industry in this country. Much better to be able to find this useful information in a new post rather than try to dig through the much on the other thread to find it. I've cruised nearly two dozen times; the cruise lines are definitely NOT counting on gambling revenue from me. Statistics do indicate smokers (and drinkers) are also more likely to be gamblers. But they can take their smelly, carcinogenic addictions OUTSIDE and let everyone enjoy the casino. It's only a matter of time.

obnancy Posted February 8, 2007 #20 Share Posted February 8, 2007 Let's not let this thread get into a smoking debate. This is just a firt hand report of the Paradise Casino smoking situation. I am a NON smoker, Mom who was with me is a heavy smoker. Yet we both managed to gamble every night until they closed down the casino. As a non-smoker I appreciated a semi-smokefree playing area. As a smoker from California, she is used to looking over her shoulder to light up. It was no big deal for her or the other smokers to walk a couple hundred feet out of the casino the the smoking area on the port side of the bar in front of the Queen Mary room to light up. Then, she returned to play. No big deal. This did not affect the quality of her trip. She even made some nice friends with other smokers, they had their own little club going. It seemed to be working for most people. A couple of the guys at the poker table complained about not being able to enjoy their cigars while playing but that was the only complaint I heard. All the smokers and non-smokers played nice together and had an enjoyable cruise.

Reason for a new post, to get away from the Debates of the other threads :D As of today I know if I book the 4 Day Paradise, the Casino will be Smoke free, and thats the info Im putting out. Fred Actually it is misleading though not completely innacurate. They are doing it as a TRIAL. Whether you book today or not, you have no idea if it will be smokless on your cruise dates. For those that prefer smoke free, they may be disappointed when they arrive and find the trial is over.

cuyahoga11 Posted February 9, 2007 #23 Share Posted February 9, 2007 Hmmm, if they do make the casinos all non-smoking, it will make it easier not to sit there for a week and lose about $1000.00 and also will cut down on bar bill as that is usually only time I drink. Think I am beginning to like this idea.
GoinCruisin Posted February 9, 2007 #24 Share Posted February 9, 2007 Poster who said "misleading" was referring to the OP posting it twice, not the posting itself. I didn't get how posting it twice was misleading. I didn't see it that way at all... I took it that Kelly said it was misleading due to the title of the post, that the casino was GOING SMOKELESS, when in fact, as she mentioned, it is a trial... so yes, the title is misleading... I didn't read into it at all that she thought it was misleading because it was posted twice.
