stellasue Posted February 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2007 Just returned from an absolutely wonderful 11 days aboard the Noordam. Everything was terrific, especially the food! I'll never figure out how HAL manages to prepare such wonderful meals for 2,000 pax per day - but they're proof that it can be done!! The first couple of days out were a bit rocky....but that's ocean travel. We witnessed the US Coast Guard remove an ailing passenger and we were impressed by the Coast Guard's skill in doing this off the aft deck (during stormy weather) as well as HAL's concern for the passenger and the family. The crewmembers were unfailingly upbeat, diligent and professional in every way. While there were many elderly pax, there was a good mix of young families (babies in strollers) and middle aged couples like ourselves. Everything on the ship is immaculate and well maintained. We've been to the Carribean so often that we don't take any tours and therefore we can't comment on that aspect of the cruise. It was surely a treat to be able to sail right out of Manhattan - no planes, no trains - and to be home by 10:30 am! We will certainly plan to spend next winter's getaway on the Noordam again. shirleygr Posted February 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2007 Thanks for posting your review. We're leaving in just over a week. Can't wait to get to some nice warm weather. This is our first time on a HAL ship and we were wondering if there were any bars that are completely non-smoking(please, no smoking debates; just looking for information due to a bad allergy)? TIA
cruisinbulldog Posted February 9, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2007 The only bars that I remember that do not allow smoking are the Martini Bar,deck 1; And the Pinnacle Bar,deck 2.. Bulldog
Guest LoveMyBoxer Posted February 9, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2007 Honestly, the only place I saw anyone smoke was the Sports Bar, the bar by the Lido pool and the bar by the aft pool. Have fun.

shirleygr Posted February 9, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2007 Southbury, just up rt8 and hang a left. Bulldog That's a nice part of the state. As you know, I'm in beautiful Bridgeport, but I grew up in New Haven. Didn't you just love being able to drive to the port instead of having to fly? I'll take a few rough seas over not having to deal with airport security any day. :)
GrammaZ Posted February 12, 2007 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2007 Just returned from the January 27th sailing of the Noordam. My comment on the smoking or lack thereof. Areas to go for entertainment where smoking is not allowed are numerous. Only bar that was we noticed allowed smoking was the Sports Bar and having to walk beside it daily to walk to the Vista Lounge was the only time you noticed it. The casino on this ship is also non-smoking. It is adjacent to the casino so anyone wanting to smoke and gamble could go there. On other cruises we have taken our attendance at the nightly entertainment (bars and lounges) was very limited as there was smoking allowed in all of them. We enjoyed drinks before dinner in the Ocean Bar, after dinner music with the Champagne Strings and almost every night in the Piano Bar with Kory without any smoking at all. Enjoyed it so much. One of the many highlights of an amazing cruise. One of the main reasons we will cruise with HAL again.
