Just home from Splendour!

Recommended Posts

This trip sounded like our cruise on Rhapsody last year, Beleize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. We had a blast and loved Cozumel the most.

We're going on the Splendor in April on a TransAtlantic to Barcelona.

I'm hoping she's just as nice and charming as Rhapsody.

60+ days and counting.

We're also flying in 1 day early and tooling around Galveston to kill time.

And hit Giado's for dinner, YUMMMMMM

I'm glad you had a great cruise! We leave in two weeks. I do have a few questions specific to the Splendour, if you don't mind. (I've only sailed Carnival before.) We'll be in a D1 aft cabin and I'm hoping that there won't be any soot on our balcony (as threatened in another thread)! Because otherwise, it sounds like paradise! Anyway, ...

1. Any experience with Internet on the cruise? Do the hotspots work with portable Macs?

2. Where is Latte-tudes located? I can't find it on a diagram of the ship. And I MUST KNOW!

3. Our sailing documents just came and state that boarding begins at 1PM. And yet people are always writing about boarding circa 11AM or so? What's the story here?

4. Did you notice a lot of people talking on cell phones now that this is possible onboard?

Thanks in advance!

Bluegirl....

I used the internet cafe at 50 cents a minute. I think I read somewhere that the WI FI doesn't support Macs, but I may be wrong.

The Cafe Latte-tudes is on deck 6. It is with Ben & Jerry's and they have a few tables and chairs so you can sit and enjoy! They also have a punch card, buy 6 get one free.

If you are a coffee drinker like me, make sure you order coffee from room service to be delivered when your feet hit the floor. They will call you 5 minutes before delivering the coffee.

Yes the documents all say boarding is at 1:00 pm. However, the Windjammer starts serving lunch at Noon. You can't get to your rooms until 1:00 pm, but you can get on the ship and enjoy lunch and then go and find your room.

There is a cell phone debate going on. Most everyone I saw (including myself) couldn't get a signal while we were at sea or in the Mexican ports. However, I have read on these threads that Cingular does work. I don't know that for a fact because I have Alltel, and Alltel will not work. It shows I have a signal, but when I try to call I get a message that "the call can not be completed".

Let me know if you have any other questions. I wish I was going with you!

The pictures were great, thanks for sharing! Did you see anyone on golf carts in Costa Maya? If you did, can you drive them up to the ship? We want to rent some, but would like to be able to pick up my parents close to the ship. Again, thanks for taking the time to take all the photos!

Do you book spa treatments once you are onboard or can you do it ahead of time?? Also, anyone know if you can send text/pic messages on cell phone back to home while at sea?(Verizon)..

According to the Verizon website, you can make phone calls from Splendour for $2.49 per minute (call and verify, you need the right type of phone, and international might need to be activated) but text messaging is NOT available.

I hope someone can clarify if Verizon works on the ship and especially in Mexico (69 cents per minute)! We can switch one of our phones with my inlaws who are watching our children if we need to. They have Cingular.

They're not going to allow that. The pier is very narrow. There is a shuttle they can take. Then walk through the shopping area to where you could be waiting on the 'road' side with the carts.

Hi all! When we were on the Splendour for the 1-25-07 cruise, our iBook worked perfectly in the wi-fi hotspots (Schooner Bar/Casino-deck 4, Top Hat Lounge-deck 5, Centrum/Latte-tudes-deck 6, Centrum/Library-deck 7, Solarium-deck 9, Viking Crown Lounge-deck 11). The pre-paid packages were: 60 minutes-$25, 90 minutes-$35, 150 minutes-$50. We did not use all of our pre-paid minutes and they credited our onboard account with the unused time.

Hey Dnoble...

2 questions....

In your pics it looks like there is a public area with lounge chairs at the aft, is that so?

Also...what did you see on formal night as far as men wearing? My husband was planning on wearing khaki dockers with a navy sport jacket with a button down shirt and tie...will that fit in, or is it too casual?? Thanks for any info!

As threatened in another thread?! Are you kidding me?! I stated that it was a very, very minor inconvenience one morning out of four and the only reason I even mentioned it was because the original poster of that thread specifically asked about it.

The view itself more than makes up for the possibility of a granule or two of soot but that's JMHO and personal experience. YMMV.

Hi! The area you asked about is on deck 9, called the "sports deck" and it's behind the Shipshape Center. I'd seen this on someone else's pics and checked it out (there are stairs aft by the rock climbing wall). I never saw very many people back there, but it was pretty cold sailing except for the day we were in Cozumel.

On "formal night" there's a wide variety of coat & tie. I believe the navy jacket/tie/khaki dockers would be okay. I just had my "Sunday suit". This was a 4-night cruise and I wasn't even sure if there was a formal night, but there was.

I'm glad you all liked my pictures - the Caribbean is so beautiful. We want to go back. Our next cruise is not til next Feb - don't know if I can wait that long! If the taxman is good to us, maybe we can go sooner (doubt that will happen, but one can dream).

Bobal, we didn't notice any noise in our 8546 cabin. Sometimes sitting out on the balcony, you would hear music at night, but it was pretty dim, not blaring. One night we kept the balcony doors open all night, that was really nice. You will love your cabin - we really liked the big closet - the balcony was plexiglass so you could see right through it, and the balcony was a nice size. The new bedding is great, we slept like babies every night. I hope you have a great cruise - and the same to all future cruisers - bon voyage!

COLD???????

I'm looking to soak up the sun...Was it too cold to lay out on sea days?? We go in 2 1/2 weeks....Maybe it will be a little warmer??? *crossing fingers**** :p

Most likely it will be warmer. We sailed last year in February and by day 2 had beautiful weather. This year it was cold. You just never know in February, but

it will probably be warmer by March.
