What's in walking distance of the pier? Budget-friendly ideas?

We're spending a bunch of money on our other stops as well as on the ship, so we're going to pinch pennys at this stop.

What is in walking distance of the pier?

I know taxi's are fairly cheap (bus system too complicated for me... try picking the right color and letter symbol after several drinks!!). What would be our best bang for the buck as far as taking a taxi somewhere on the island? I'm hoping to find something breathtaking AND near other stuff (maybe a bar, shop, etc...). Is there a beach that has decent snorkeling AND nice sand?

And is it legal to pick up some alcoholic drinks and bring them to the beach? I know some places in the US don't allow it but everyone does it anyways. It would be great to pick up a foam cooler, pack it with ice and beer, and head to the beach!

Thanks!!!

check out the paradise rest. do a search on here to get more information. I understand it is within walking distance, has good snorkling, on beach and has decent prices for beer and drinks for Cayman.

Eden Rock offers very good snorkeling just about 2 blocks right from the tender dock. There is a dive shop there as well. There is no beach...its all rock with steps down to the water. Then perhaps, hit Paradise cafe pretty much next door, for a drink. No beach is in walking distance. Taxi is about $4-5 pp to public beach. Try Seagrape or the beach in front of the Courtyard by Marriott, just past Seagrape. There is decent snorkeling to the right (facing the water) where you will see the darker water as it is over rock formations. The beach is nice and sandy. Chairs and umbrellas are avaiable to rent and there is a bar and restaurant at both Seagrape and Courtyard beaches

"No beach is in walking distance."

I think the poster meant that no beach with a washroom is in walking distance... there is a great sandy beach about 10 mins walking as you get off the pier head to your left and keep walking past a cemetary that is on your left. Just past that is a wonderful sandy beach with a few palm trees that we found very enjoyable... no washrooms though, but that was no problem to us.
