Patters for Grand Princess

I had my kids on the Golden and the Grand and they participated in the programs and LOVED them. What exactly do you want to know? My kids are roughly the same ages as yours. I will try to answer any questions you have. I do not check the boards more than once a week, so please accept my apology if it takes a few days to get back to you with your answers.

One of my questions is, how did you do dinner?
I want family dinners, but I would like maybe one or 2 alone with hubby. Did you do traditional, if so what seating?
Did you ever use the group babysitting at 10PM?
We be celebrating our 25th anniversey the day after saling!
Just any comments you think of.
Oh yes we did get 2 rooms. One has an upper birth. I have no idea who will sleep there, my kids are to little. Did you have this ?
Thanks

j&b's mommy,

I'm also interested in your feedback on Princess kids program. We're considering the Star Princess in December. We have a well behaved 5 year old that has two cruises under his belt, both on RCI. We do like the the RCI Adventure Ocean program for kids. We've not been on Princess and am curious if the general clientele seems to frown on or avoid children. We've opted for flexible dining and would hate to seated with some old curmudgeons that don't like kids.

Ok, I will do my best to answer your questions. We had personal choice dining. This gave us the option of eating when we wanted. The kids's club has at least one "kids' dinner", so that night the kids ate there and we ate alone. The other nights we went to eat about 630pm and the kids would eat with us and when they were done we would take them to the kids's club which opened at 7pm. We ate our soup/salad/appetizer while the kids ate and then we worked it out with our waiter to hold the entree until I got back from dropping them off at the club. It worked out really well for us. The nights that they had formal photos on the ship, we just took them before dinner.
I never used the after 10pm babysitting.
I have 2 kids and we had a minisuite. The couch opened up into a bed for them. Some of the couches make a single bed and others make a double. We had one with a double and they love sharing.
I found that most people were approving of us having our kids with us. When we went on the Golden it was Thanksgiving and there were almost 400-500 kids (or so) in the kids club. When we were on the Grand it was the week before Thanksgiving and there were less than 200. I liked it when there were less kids in the club because the counselors really got to know the kids and the kids really got attached. THey were always getting gifts like backpacks, watches, stuffed animals, medals, etc. Although they got some stuff over the holiday week, it was not nearly as much. Although the counselors recognized the kids, they just didn't know them as well.
The clubs were very nice and I liked their children's pool area, but the pool is very small. It was never crowded.
One of my favorite things about Princess is the fact that the buffet is open 24/7 and my kids were always hungry! They had free ice cream every afternoon at the buffet. There is a pay Haagan Daaz also. THe children's menu in the dining room was good and they were able to order off of the adult menu if they wanted. The staff was so attentive to them. A lot of the staff has children back home and they enjoy seeing children on hte ship - that is what they told us.
Overall, I was very pleased with Princess. Let me know what else you would like to know.
I hope this was helpful!
